Can nosebleeds be inherited? This is the reason why nosebleeds occur

Nosebleed is a folk saying among the common people. In medicine, nosebleed is called epistaxis, which mainly refers to the bleeding of many small blood vessels in the nose. There are many clinical causes of nosebleeds, not only due to factors such as climate conditions and trauma, but also likely related to some diseases.

Dry air

The membranes in the front of the nose dry out when exposed to hot, dry air, which is why nosebleeds often occur in winter when people spend time in dry air.

Trauma

Trauma can cause nose bleeding, severe nose fractures, and sometimes even a loud sneeze can cause a nosebleed.

Drugs

Drugs that interfere with blood clotting can make nosebleeds more likely after minor injuries. Anticoagulants such as heparin or warfarin or anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin or ibuprofen can reduce the amount of nosebleeds.

disease

Disorders that interfere with clotting, such as hemophilia or a low platelet count, can cause nosebleeds. Nosebleeds may also occur as a first sign of leukemia. Nosebleeds also stem from sinus infections, colds, and high blood pressure, which can cause more severe bleeding in the large blood vessels at the back of the nose.

Sinus tumors, which can be benign or cancerous, can cause nosebleeds, especially in older people and smokers, who are more likely to get them, the AAO reports. So can nasal polyps, benign fleshy growths, which can cause nosebleeds.

Genetics

Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, or HHT, is a genetic disease that causes abnormal growth of small blood vessels called telangiectasias on the nasal membranes as well as on the face, lips and tips of the fingers and toes. Bleeding can occur from any of the abnormal blood vessels, including those in the nose, the genetic reference reports.
