Men standing for a long time may cause infertility

"It's like a small bag of worms have drilled into the scrotum. It doesn't feel obvious at first, but when you stand up, you can see or touch the varicose veins in the spermatic cord. If you puff up your stomach and increase abdominal pressure, you can see more serious varicose veins, but it can be relieved by just lying down and resting." In clinical practice, we often hear male patients asking doctors for help with the above troubles.

Varicose veins are not only common in the lower limbs of the human body, but may also occur on the male scrotum. This problem is most likely to occur when men sit or stand for too long.

Statistics show that about 10% of men aged 30-40 are prone to this disease, and among them, male teachers, salesmen, and waiters whose occupations require long periods of standing are the most common.

Because men stand or sit for too long, it is easy to cause blockage of the spermatic vein in the scrotum, resulting in abnormal swelling. In other words, the testicular venous blood does not flow back well and is retained in the blood vessels.

Over time, patients may experience pain in the testicles, inner thighs, groin, and lower back, or testicular softening and size reduction. In severe cases, protruding blood vessels can be seen from the outside, seriously affecting male fertility.

According to foreign studies, the free radical content in patients with varicocele is twice that of normal people, but their antioxidant capacity is only half of that of normal people. Excessive free radicals can cause cell aging and cancer in the body, and increase the incidence of cardiovascular disease and cataracts. Therefore, doctors usually recommend male patients to avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time, and to rest and exercise appropriately to improve the body's anti-aging ability.

In addition, men can also do self-examination at any time when taking a hot bath to see if the testicles are symmetrical and whether there are earthworms or noodle-like protrusions in the scrotum. If there are soreness symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately. Usually, those with mild symptoms can be treated with medication. In severe cases, intravenous ligation surgery can be considered. About 40% of patients can improve their infertility symptoms after surgery.
