Keep good gear ready

The instructions supplied with a product are the starting point for care. Materials respond differently to heat, cleaners and storage conditions, so a routine that works for one item may not suit another.

Bottles, cups and utensils

Clean food-contact surfaces after use and rinse thoroughly. Only put an item in a dishwasher when its instructions permit it. Let lids, threads and seals dry before storage. A single-wall metal cup can become hot when filled; allow it to cool before handling or drinking.

Textiles and packable storage

Brush away loose dirt before cleaning. Follow the label for water temperature and detergent. Dry completely before storing. Avoid prolonged direct heat and do not assume that washing will restore a waterproof coating.

Bands, ropes and training accessories

Look for cuts, thinning material, cracks and loose connections. Stop using worn equipment. Keep rubber and elastic items away from sharp objects and do not attempt an improvised repair. Use a manufacturer-approved replacement when needed.

Lighting and electronics

Follow battery and charging instructions. Keep ports clean and dry as specified, and check battery condition before an outing. Water-resistance ratings depend on the product and do not remove the need for care.
