The causes of cramps during exercise, be careful of these four points

During exercise, many people will experience cramps. So, what are the causes of cramps? The following four points need your attention.

Cold stimulation

When doing sports in a cold environment without doing warm-up exercises or doing inadequate warm-up exercises, when the body is suddenly stimulated by the cold, this stimulation is transmitted to the muscles through the nervous system, increasing muscle excitability, causing muscle tonic contraction and causing muscle spasm.

Too much electrolyte loss

Long-distance running causes a lot of sweating, especially long-term intense exercise or exercise in a high temperature environment, which causes a large amount of electrolytes (such as sodium and chloride) in the body to be lost through sweat, causing electrolyte balance in the body to be disturbed, causing increased muscle excitability and muscle cramps.

Muscle contraction disorder

In intense training and competition, the coordinated alternation of muscle contraction and relaxation can be disrupted due to continuous and rapid muscle contraction, too short a relaxation period, or sudden and intense muscle contraction, causing muscle spasms. This is more common in sprint and cycling events.

Sports muscle injury

In recent years, studies have shown that after repeated exercise causes muscle fiber damage, calcium ions, the initiating factor of muscle contraction, enter the cell membrane, increasing the calcium ion concentration in the muscle cells, causing the muscle fiber contraction to lose control, resulting in ineffective contraction, and thus causing local muscle spasms. Others believe that intense exercise causes local ischemia and produces certain pain-causing substances. When these substances accumulate to a certain extent, they will stimulate the pain nerve endings in the muscles, causing pain and reflexively causing muscle spasms. This type of muscle spasm is more common in marathon sports.
