Nasal congestion, cold, and nosebleed? Beware of cancer!

Fever, cough, and runny nose are common symptoms of a cold, but nosebleeds should attract your attention. Let’s take a look at the causes of nosebleeds due to a cold!

Nasal congestion and cold? Melanoma is the culprit

"At first I had a blocked nose and nosebleeds, and I thought it was a cold caused by blood heat." Mr. Zheng, 61, told reporters that he discovered the symptoms two months ago and bought a lot of Chinese patent medicines for colds, but the symptoms did not improve at all.

Once, Lao Zheng found a small lump in his nose and went to a nearby small hospital for treatment. The doctor only prescribed some anti-inflammatory drugs, but nasal congestion and nosebleeds still occurred frequently. Later, at the suggestion of a doctor friend, he went to a tumor hospital for examination. On the same day, he was diagnosed with left nasal melanoma and was immediately arranged for surgery.

Dark shadows in front of your eyes? Melanoma may be to blame

23-year-old Xiao Ran was working in Xiamen. One day in March this year, he suddenly felt severe swelling and pain in his left eye while working. At night, he lost his vision in his left eye. He went to the hospital for examination. The doctor found that Xiao Ran had choroidal melanoma in his left eye socket. To prevent metastasis, the hospital removed his left eye with Xiao Ran's consent and recommended that he go to a large hospital for surgery and follow-up treatment immediately.

Later, Xiao Ran came to Chongqing Cancer Hospital, where doctors removed the melanoma in his left eye socket and he is now recovering well. "In fact, my left eye sometimes felt a little uncomfortable before, and there were often dark shadows when I looked at things. I didn't pay much attention to it. If I had checked it earlier, maybe I could have saved my eye." Xiao Ran said with regret.

Don't scratch moles on your body

China is a low-incidence area for melanoma, but the incidence rate has been rising in recent years. Currently, about 700 people in our city are diagnosed with melanoma each year. Melanoma is a highly malignant tumor that originates in the skin and is more common in men than in women. It is more common in the feet and lower limbs, followed by the trunk, head, neck, and upper limbs. It can also originate in the eyes, nasal cavity, etc., and can metastasize. Once diagnosed, it should be removed and treated as soon as possible.

The vast majority of malignant melanomas occur due to repeated friction, scratching and damage to the moles, which causes benign moles to transform into malignant melanomas. In particular, many people do not pay enough attention to moles that grow on the feet, palms, genitals and other parts that are prone to friction. Due to long-term squeezing, they eventually undergo malignant transformation. People who are exposed to the sun for a long time should also pay attention.

In addition, some beauty-conscious ladies will choose to remove moles by laser, cryotherapy, chemical etching, etc. This is a very dangerous operation for real melanoma, and it is easy to cause cancer due to incomplete removal and some stimulated melanocytes remaining. If there is a need for beauty, you should go to a regular hospital for surgical removal.

Beware of changes in pigmented moles

1. The area or volume suddenly increases, and the color becomes darker or changes.

2. Redness, swelling and inflammation of the pigmented nevus or its surrounding area.

3. The pigmented nevus begins to grow asymmetrically, for example, one side is larger than the other, or one side is deeper than the other.

4. The surface changes from smooth to rough, and may even rot, ooze, or bleed.

5. Several small black dots suddenly appear around a pigmented mole, which is called a satellite-shaped mole.

6. A mole suddenly develops an itchy feeling.
