Causes and treatments for testicular torsion

In daily life, when a male friend finds that his testicles are twisted, he first needs to find out the cause of the testicular twisting, and then treat it. So, what is the cause of testicular twisting?

Causes of testicular torsion:

This disease may be related to anatomical malformation or incomplete development, such as excessively wide sac vaginalis, excessively long spermatic cord or incomplete testicular descent. Sometimes the external force is not obvious, and the disease can even occur during sleep. It may be caused by the excitement of the vagus nerve during sleep and the strong contraction of the levator testis muscle with the erection of the testicles and penis. Trauma to the vulva, vigorous exercise, or even cold weather that causes spasm of the levator testis muscle or sudden changes in body position can also cause excessive testicular activity and induce testicular torsion.

Treatment for testicular torsion:

If testicular torsion occurs, the best treatment is surgery. There are two types of surgical methods: surgical reduction and manual reduction.

1. Surgical reduction

After the diagnosis of testicular torsion is made, surgery should be performed as soon as possible to reduce the testicle and try to complete the surgery within 6 hours of the onset of symptoms. After the twisted testicle is reduced, observe whether the blood circulation is normal, and then perform intermittent suture fixation of the testicle, spermatic cord and scrotal inner layer of the tunica vaginalis to prevent recurrence after surgery. If the testicular blood circulation is found to be extremely poor during the operation and cannot be restored after reduction, the testicle should be removed.

2. Manual restoration

Generally, it can be tried at the beginning of the disease. Analgesics and antispasmodics should be given first, and the horizontal and lifted testicles should be gently repositioned half an hour later. After successful repositioning, the scrotum should be supported with a "T" band to allow the affected testicle to fully rest. However, repositioning by manipulation cannot prevent recurrence.

After the operation, you can apply ice to relieve pain and edema. At the same time, you should use a "T" band to support the scrotum for one week to gradually restore normal function.
