How to treat epididymitis?

Epididymitis is well known to many male friends. It is caused by bacteria infection due to lack of hygiene. It will cause pain in the testicles of patients, and is accompanied by symptoms such as high body temperature, vomiting, and nausea. The testicles are enlarged, tender, and the scrotal skin is red and swollen. There are always people who find that their testicles are painful, but they don’t know what the situation is. In fact, this is the problem of epididymitis. Then let’s take a look at the self-examination methods and treatment methods of epididymitis.

How to self-check for epididymitis

1: Acute epididymitis may also be caused by external force squeezing, with a feeling of testicles being squeezed. More often, it is caused by too frequent sexual life, especially for teenagers and unmarried people, masturbation may also lead to the occurrence of this disease.

2: Generally, patients with epididymitis will have nodules, which mostly occur in the head or tail of the epididymis, mostly in the tail. After the epididymis is infected, nodules are often left in the tail or head.

3: Sudden high fever and increased white blood cell count, swelling and pain in the scrotum on the affected side, a feeling of heaviness, pulling pain in the lower abdomen and groin, which worsens when standing or walking. The epididymis on the affected side is enlarged and there is obvious tenderness. When the inflammation is large, both the epididymis and testicles are swollen, and the boundary between the two is unclear, which is called epididymal orchitis. The spermatic cord on the affected side is thickened and there is also tenderness. This is the symptom of acute epididymitis.

4: Chronic epididymitis is more common. Some patients become chronic because the acute phase is not completely cured, but most patients do not have a clear acute phase. The inflammation is often secondary to chronic prostatitis or injury. Patients often feel dull pain and bloating on the affected side of the scrotum. The pain often extends to the lower abdomen and the ipsilateral inguinal cleft. Sometimes it may be combined with secondary hydrocele.

During examination, the epididymis often becomes enlarged and hardened to varying degrees. There is mild tenderness, and the vas deferens on the same side may be thickened. It is relatively easy to cure if the epididymis function is simply affected, but when the epididymis is infected, it is usually accompanied by other inflammations, which makes it more difficult to cure.

Treatment of epididymitis

1: Treatment should be given in the early stage of the disease. Acute epididymitis is an acute inflammatory disease caused by infection. If found, it should be treated immediately. Use general treatment methods to treat epididymitis. In the acute stage, patients must rest in bed and use scrotal support or clothing or gauze to raise the scrotum to reduce the weight of the scrotum, which causes the drooping, swelling, pain and other discomfort symptoms.

2: Good nursing measures during treatment. During treatment, the patient should lift up the scrotum and apply local hot compress. If the scrotal skin is obviously swollen, use wet hot compress with drug solution to help the inflammation subside. For testicular abscess formation, consider extracting pus or incision drainage. When the testicle is completely destroyed due to purulent formation, the diseased testicle can be removed.

3: Eat moderately. This treatment method for epididymitis should be used in the acute stage of epididymitis, especially when fever occurs. Energy consumption is high, so calories should be supplemented, especially sugar, high protein, vitamin-rich, and high-calorie foods.

4: Cold and hot external compresses. In the early stage of inflammation, cold compresses or cold water sitz baths can reduce inflammatory edema and inflammatory exudates. In the middle and late stages, hot compresses or hot water sitz baths can be used to promote the disappearance of inflammation.

Epididymitis is often more common in young people. Because they do not pay attention to the hygiene of the lower part of the body at a young age, they are easily infected with bacteria, which leads to epididymitis. Therefore, it is essential to arrange diet and rest time properly during the treatment process. A healthy and regular life will lead to a healthy body.
