How to check if your testicles are healthy?

Physical examination includes many items. Regular physical examination is very important for maintaining health and timely detection of potential diseases. For men, testicular examination is also an important examination item, because the testicles are the main source of sperm and male hormones. Regular examination can well judge the physical condition of men and the functional status of fertility.

Hold one testicle gently with your hand, touch it lightly with your thumb and move other fingers, and thoroughly check whether there is a lump or abnormality in touch or appearance. When doing self-examination of the testicles, the first thing to pay attention to is the size of the testicles. The volume of an adult's testicles should be more than 8 ml, and the average testicle size of Chinese people is 12 ml. If an adult's testicle is less than 8 ml, it may be testicular atrophy. When a boy is 10 years old, the testicular volume should generally reach 4 ml, and less than 4 ml should be considered abnormal. Next, use palpation to examine the testicles. The normal state of the testicles should be smooth surface, full texture, no tenderness, and clear boundary with the epididymis. If the testicles are found to be enlarged in a short period of time and there is no tenderness, it may be testicular cancer; if the testicles are painful when touched, it indicates testicular inflammation; if the scrotum is enlarged and the testicles and epididymis cannot be felt, it may be hydrocele, that is, fluid accumulation in the scrotum; if the epididymis is painful and swollen, it indicates that the epididymis has a lesion.

Through testicular examination, some potential male diseases such as hydrocele, varicocele, and even tumors can be diagnosed. Therefore, regular testicular examination is necessary. If some diseases occur, active treatment measures should be taken in time. For patients with low sperm count, they should also pay attention to all aspects for treatment.
