The testicles are where sperm rich in genetic substances are produced. The health of the testicles directly determines the male's reproductive ability and quality of life. It is one of the most important sexual organs in the male body. Therefore, when the testicles become smaller and atrophied, men, especially men of childbearing age, will feel very worried. There are many reasons for the shrinkage of the testicles, which are mainly related to the patient's reproductive health. The shrinking of testicles is likely a result of testicular atrophy. In medicine, testicular atrophy means that the testicles were originally normal, but then gradually shrank for some reason. The reasons are roughly as follows: 1. Viral infection: Viral infection is the most common cause of testicular atrophy in children and adolescents, especially mumps virus. When the testicles are invaded by this virus, the spermatogenic tissue in the testicles is destroyed, the testicles shrink in size, and become soft in texture. 2. Injury: Impact injury to the scrotum or testicles causes scrotal hematoma or testicular laceration. Even if the wound heals, the testicles will be in a state of insufficient blood supply for a long time and atrophy will occur. 3. Inflammation: Severe orchitis causes testicular swelling and pain that can last for several days. Testicular tissue is damaged by bacterial invasion, leading to atrophy of the testicular tissue. 4. Endocrine diseases: The testicle is an endocrine organ that mainly produces androgens. Diseases of many endocrine organs in the body, such as the pituitary gland, adrenal glands, and hypothalamus, can cause testicular atrophy. 5. Drug effects: Long-term use of certain toxic substances can cause testicular atrophy. There are many clinical causes of testicular shrinkage. Patients are likely to experience abnormal testicular reactions after being stimulated by trauma or infected by viruses and bacteria. Therefore, patients need to receive treatment to prevent further testicular atrophy and hardening, which would cause uncoordinated development between the testicles and penis, leading to smaller testicles and affecting male reproductive health and vitality. |
