Decreased sperm motility

Decreased sperm motility

There is a close relationship between the quality of sperm and a man's fertility, so men should keep exercising to keep sperm motility at a moderate level, so as to maintain normal fertility. If some couples find that they cannot get pregnant for a long time, they should not only consider the woman's problem, but also the sperm survival rate of the man. What does it mean if a man finds that his sperm motility is gradually declining?

What is low sperm motility?

If you want to know what kind of disease low sperm count is, first we need to know what sperm is. Sperm is a component of semen, and semen is an organic substance. Semen contains fructose and protein, as well as some enzymes, inorganic salts and organic salts. I believe many people know this.

Sperm motility refers to the percentage of sperm in semen that are moving in a progressive manner. Since only sperm with progressive motility can have normal survival and fertilization capabilities, it is one of the main indicators for routine examinations to assess the quality of semen.

Low sperm motility, also known as asthenozoospermia, refers to a condition in which the forward-moving sperm in semen parameters is less than 50% or the a-grade sperm is less than 25% (less than 25% of the grade III sperm in the international grading system). Asthenozoospermia is the most common type of low sperm quality and often occurs with other semen abnormalities. Reproductive bacteria infection, varicocele, trace element deficiency, mycoplasma infection, and testicular spermatogenesis dysfunction are the main causes of low sperm motility.

Severe low sperm motility can directly lead to infertility. Even if a woman successfully conceives, the quality of the fertilized egg will decrease, which will directly lead to poor embryo development, resulting in stillbirth, miscarriage, etc. Therefore, all male friends must pay attention and seek timely treatment once they find that they have low sperm motility.

Symptoms of Low Sperm Motility

Due to lack of understanding of the disease, many people do not know what symptoms low sperm motility will cause, resulting in delayed treatment time. Let's summarize the symptoms of low sperm motility for everyone. If male friends have the following symptoms, they must pay attention to it and seek treatment as soon as possible to avoid delaying the disease.

1. There may be no obvious systemic symptoms, but if it occurs after prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, epididymitis and testicular disease, you should pay attention in the near future.

2. Symptoms of insufficient kidney yang and kidney qi include impotence, decreased libido, chills and cold limbs, fatigue, soreness in the waist and knees, etc.

3. Difficult urination, continuous urination, short and dark urine, bitter taste in the mouth and dry throat are all signs of internal dampness and heat.

Treatment for low sperm motility

How should we treat low sperm motility? There are many methods, including dietary supplements and traditional Chinese medicine. You can consult a doctor for detailed treatment methods. Today, I will focus on introducing drug treatments.

1. Treatment of oligospermia caused by endocrine dysfunction: Some patients can increase sperm count by taking clomiphene, 25 mg per day, for 25 days a month, and stop for 5 days, for 6 to 12 months as a course of treatment. Long-term use can reduce the percentage of sperm with normal morphology, so low-dose treatment is currently recommended. Human chorionic gonadotropin is also used, with intramuscular injections twice a week, for 8 to 10 weeks as a course of treatment. At the same time, vitamin E 100 to 200 mg can be taken orally daily for 3 to 4 months.

2. Supplement trace elements: Zinc supplementation has a certain effect on oligospermia and necrospermia. The number of sperm increases significantly after taking the medicine. Due to the antagonistic effect of zinc and copper, zinc supplementation can also treat high copper. The treatment method is to take 50-100 mg of zinc gluconate orally twice a day for 3 months as a course of treatment. Zinc sulfate is also used for treatment.

3. Supplementing arginine: Arginine is an essential component for sperm production. The amino acid content in the semen of oligospermia patients is significantly lower than that of normal men. Supplementing arginine, taking 4 grams orally daily for 10 weeks, can increase sperm count.
