At what age does prostatitis usually occur?

It is generally believed that prostatitis is a common disease among young men, closely related to people with frequent sexual activity, and the peak age is generally between 25 and 35 years old. However, epidemiological and pathological studies have found that prostatitis can affect men of all ages, including middle-aged and elderly men, and can occur simultaneously with prostate hyperplasia in elderly men or one after the other.

Prostatitis often occurs in adult men and is the most common reason for men aged 20-50 to visit urology departments. The vast majority of surveys have found that the incidence of prostatitis in middle-aged and elderly men is also high. Benign prostatic hyperplasia often occurs in elderly men, which may be related to prostatitis in some way, making patients more susceptible to urinary tract infections and thus prostate infections. Studies have reported that the probability of inflammatory reactions in prostate histological examinations of patients with prostatic hyperplasia after surgery is as high as 84%-98%. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of prostatitis in middle-aged and elderly men should be highly valued.

In addition, prostatitis is not uncommon among teenagers. After puberty, the prostate gland begins to secrete prostatic fluid and excretes it regularly through masturbation, sexual intercourse or spermatorrhea. At this time, the chance of prostatitis increases significantly. Among teenagers, excessive masturbation is one of the causes of prostatitis, which can also be secondary to acute prostatitis, accompanied by urinary tract infection and bladder irritation symptoms.

Symptoms of prostatitis

1. Urinary discomfort: Bladder irritation symptoms may occur, such as frequent urination, burning and pain in the urethra during urination, and radiating to the glans penis. There may be mucus and other secretions in the urethra in the early morning, and there may also be a feeling of difficulty in urination.

2. Local symptoms: Distension and discomfort in the posterior urethra, perineum and anus. The bloating and pain will be aggravated by squatting, defecation and sitting on a chair for a long time.

3. Radiating pain: The pain of chronic prostatitis is not limited to the urethra and perineum, but also radiates to the vicinity, with lower back pain being the most common. In addition, the penis, spermatic cord, testicles and scrotum, lower abdomen, inguinal area (thigh root), thigh, rectum, etc. can all be affected.

4. Sexual dysfunction: Chronic prostatitis can cause loss of libido, painful ejaculation, premature ejaculation, etc. It can also affect the quality of semen. White discharge from the urethra may occur after urination or defecation, and hematospermia may occur when combined with seminal vesiculitis.

5. Other symptoms: Chronic prostatitis may be accompanied by neurasthenia, manifested by fatigue, dizziness, insomnia, etc. Long-term persistent prostatitis may even cause allergic reactions in the body, resulting in conjunctivitis, arthritis and other lesions.

6. Low back pain caused by chronic prostatitis and low back pain caused by orthopedic reasons, such as muscle tendons
