Male urethral irrigation

Male urethral irrigation

There are many benefits for men to do urethral irrigation, the most common of which is that it can effectively treat prostatitis. The reason is that urethral irrigation is different from general oral medications. It can directly act on the male prostate and has a significant effect on relieving prostate symptoms. Therefore, it can be said that male urethral irrigation is inseparable from prostatitis. So, how should men do urethral irrigation?

First, let's explain prostatitis. Generally, antibiotics and Chinese medicine are used for anti-inflammatory, dehumidifying and heat treatment. At the same time, oral prostate contraceptives are taken, prostate massage is performed, comprehensive treatment is performed, and sexual life is reduced. Prostatitis refers to a prostate disease caused by a variety of complex reasons, with urethral irritation symptoms and chronic pelvic pain as the main clinical manifestations. Prostatitis is a common disease in urology, ranking first among male patients under 50 years old in urology. Although the incidence of prostatitis is very high, its cause is still not very clear, especially non-bacterial prostatitis, so its treatment focuses on improving symptoms. In 1995, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States developed a new classification method for prostatitis: Type I: equivalent to acute bacterial prostatitis in the traditional classification method, Type II: equivalent to chronic bacterial prostatitis in the traditional classification method, Type III: chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome, Type IV: asymptomatic prostatitis. Among them, nonbacterial prostatitis is far more common than bacterial prostatitis.

The urethral flushing test is an auxiliary examination method used to check whether the urethra function is normal. When the urethra is infected, purulent secretions and white blood cells in the infected area will be discharged with the urine, causing the urine to appear cloudy and contain filaments. Microscopic examination shows pus and white blood cells. If a small amount of urine is discharged after the anterior urethra is flushed clean, and it shows the above characteristics, it can be preliminarily determined to be a posterior urinary tract infection. This test can be used to determine the corresponding symptoms.

Inspection process

(1) This test is performed when the bladder is full. The penis and urethral opening are routinely disinfected and covered with a sterile drape. (2) Press the perineal urethra with your fingers to prevent the fluid from entering the posterior urethra during flushing. (3) Insert a thin catheter 2 or 3 cm from the urethral opening, or insert a syringe directly into the urethral opening (without a needle). Flush repeatedly with 3% warm boric acid solution until the washout fluid is clear. (4) Release the pressure on the urethra and instruct the patient to urinate a small amount into a test tube. (5) Observe the color and properties of the urine and perform a microscopic examination of the urine sediment.

Clinical significance

Abnormal result: cloudy urine, filamentous matter, or a large number of pus cells and white blood cells in microscopic examination indicate a positive test. It is used to diagnose male posterior urethral infection, but it cannot diagnose the cause. A positive test indicates the presence of urinary tract infection. People who need to be tested: suspected urinary tract infection.

Notes

Unsuitable people: those with anterior urethritis and trauma. Taboos before examination: maintain normal sleep and diet. Requirements during examination: strict aseptic operation, press the urethra firmly to prevent the backflow of flushing fluid into the bladder, causing iatrogenic secondary infection.
