Don’t eat dead oysters!

It is easy to tell whether an oyster is dead or alive: whether it is open or not. If it is open, it is dead, and if it cannot be pried open, it is alive. If you come across an oyster that is open and waiting for you to eat it, don't think you are lucky and can be lazy and not pry it open, because it is a dead oyster.

Of course, there is another way to identify the vitality of oysters: look at the skirt of the oyster after it is pried open.
