What is it like to have only one testicle?

Generally speaking, men have two testicles of the same size, but some men only have one testicle. Why is this? Will this affect men's normal physiological activities? In daily life, some men have to remove one testicle due to trauma or testicular disease, so they only have one testicle left. These reasons are not complete, and the detailed reasons will be shown below.

Experts say there are two main reasons for having one testicle.

Acquired factors: refers to the original presence of two testicles, but one testicle has to be removed because it is damaged and atrophies or develops certain diseases.

Congenital factors: refers to having only one testicle in the scrotum when coming out of the mother's womb.

In fact, among this type of patients, only one sixth are truly congenitally without one testicle, while most patients do have an additional testicle, but when developing in the womb, it did not descend to the scrotum like a normal testicle, but remained in the abdomen, groin, etc. This is medically known as cryptorchidism.

What is cryptorchidism? Cryptorchidism refers to a condition in which the testicles on one or both sides of a child do not descend into the scrotum after birth. Most children have their testicles descended into the scrotum at birth, but 1-7% of children have their testicles completely descended about a week after birth. For those who do not descend after three months to a year, the chance of descending is significantly reduced. Therefore, parents should pay enough attention to the development of boys' genitals.

In short, there are two reasons why men have only one testicle, either congenital or acquired, and the reason is very simple. Moreover, having only one testicle does not hinder a man's normal life, and the function is still complete and there is no loss. Men can get married and have children without worrying about this. Men should not worry too much about this.
