What is the treatment for kidney stones in men?

Men often suffer from kidney stones because they have more work pressure, irregular diet, and often forget to drink water when they are busy. When kidney stones are small, there may be no symptoms, but when kidney stones become larger or enter the ureter, men often feel unbearable pain. So, if men have kidney stones, how should they be treated?

1. Pelvic or sinus lithotomy: It is the most common method for treating male kidney stones. The renal pelvis is opened and the stones are removed. For staghorn stones or renal calyx stones, sometimes a pelvic or sinus lithotomy is required to remove the stones.

2. Renal parenchyma incision and lithotomy: For large renal stones that cannot be removed through the renal sinus, renal parenchyma incision is required to achieve the purpose of treating male renal stones. Before incision of the renal parenchyma, the needle should be inserted into the stone site. When the stone is touched, the needle should be retained and a sharp knife should be used to cut along the needle.

3. Partial nephrectomy: This method of treating male kidney stones is suitable for kidney stones that are confined to one pole or one renal caudal tube, and the infundibulum of the renal caudal tube is narrow, making it impossible for the stones to be discharged on their own, multiple stones in the renal pole (mostly in the lower pole of the kidney), or located in the dilated renal caudal tube with poor drainage. The renal pole or renal caudal tube can be removed together with the stones.

4. Nephrectomy: If one side of the kidney has kidney stones and there is severe hydronephrosis or abscesses, which has caused severe damage to or loss of kidney function, and the other side has good kidney function, the affected kidney can be removed. Because the kidneys are paired organs, if only one side is diseased, removing the diseased kidney will allow the other side to have sufficient compensation ability and maintain normal body function. This is also one of the methods for treating male kidney stones.

The above four methods are the treatment measures for kidney stones. After suffering from kidney stones, you can decide what treatment method to adopt under the guidance of a doctor. You should pay attention to drinking more water at ordinary times. A large amount of urine can allow smaller kidney stones to be excreted from the body with urine. After suffering from stones, you should pay attention to reducing the intake of oxalic acid foods as much as possible to prevent the stones from becoming larger.
