Best commonly used medicine for prostate hyperplasia

Men are probably familiar with prostate hyperplasia, because it has become a common male disease that endangers men's health in recent years. From a clinical medical perspective, there are many drugs that can treat prostate hyperplasia, and the treatment drugs are mainly determined based on the patient's condition. Next, let's take a look at the best commonly used drugs in the treatment of prostate hyperplasia.

What medications are available to treat prostate hyperplasia?

In recent years, there are dozens of drugs for treating prostate hyperplasia, and new drugs are constantly being introduced. Generally speaking, there are four types of drugs for treating prostate hyperplasia:

1. Plant drugs This type of drug is an active ingredient extracted from African herbs, saw palm fruit, pollen and other plants. It has the function of inhibiting the effect of testosterone in the gland or directly acting on the proliferating cells to reduce glandular edema. Currently, the commonly used clinical drugs such as Tongniaoling, Baoqianlie, Huqianlie, Qianliekang, etc. belong to this type of drug. In addition, Shenitong (Qianlietai) is made by extracting the active ingredients from pure pollen by breaking the shell. The drug effect is faster and the effect is more obvious.

2. Drugs that reduce the size of the prostate Since prostate hyperplasia is related to a hormone called dihydrotestosterone in the blood, and dihydrotestosterone is converted from testosterone secreted by the testicles through the action of 5-α reductase, inhibiting the action of 5-α reductase can reduce the production of testosterone, causing its concentration in the blood to decrease, thereby reducing the size of the prostate and relieving obstruction symptoms. Its representative drug is Proscar (prescription drug). Since prostate hyperplasia is a slowly developing disease, it also takes a corresponding amount of time to shrink. Treatment must last at least 6 months to be effective, but it will proliferate again after stopping the drug.

3. Smooth muscle relaxants Although prostate hyperplasia is not obvious in some people, the symptoms are very serious. The reason is often due to excessive tension of smooth muscle fibers in the prostate capsule and gland. If the tension of these muscle fibers is relieved and the smooth muscles of the bladder neck, prostate and urethra are relaxed, the symptoms can be alleviated. This type of drug is represented by α-adrenaline receptor blockers phenamine and mashani (terazosin hydrochloride). However, this type of drug has a relaxing effect on the smooth muscles in blood vessels throughout the body, so postural hypotension may occur after taking it. In addition, there are side effects such as nasal congestion, dizziness, palpitations, headache, fatigue, blurred vision, and no ejaculation. Some of the newly launched drugs such as Gotlin, Harle, and Santa have more specific range of effects, and some are slow-release agents with longer-lasting efficacy and fewer side effects. The number of doses per day can be reduced, and they have obvious superiority.

4. Others In addition to the above-mentioned drugs, other drugs for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia include steroid drugs and sex hormone drugs, such as meprobamate, enantone, and medroxyprogesterone.

What drugs should not be used for prostate hyperplasia?

Tricyclic antidepressants such as atropine, propantheline, scopolamine, anisodine, and doxepin should be avoided because they affect the function of the bladder detrusor and bladder dilator muscles, causing these muscles to relax, thereby causing and aggravating dysuria and worsening the condition.

Secondly, morphine, adrenaline, ephedrine, acetaminophen and anti-allergic drugs such as promethazine, diphenhydramine, promethazine, etc. also have the side effect of affecting urination, so they should also be contraindicated or used with caution.
