Male penis implant

Male penis implant

When men suffer from impotence, it is very painful. Their sexual function is seriously affected, and they also suffer psychological blows, with reduced self-confidence and mental breakdown. Although male penile implants can restore sexual function, they may suffer from a series of complications such as infection and pain. At this time, patients need to be fully prepared, follow the doctor's instructions for care, and maintain good hygiene to avoid more problems.

Possible complications of male penile implants include:

(1) Infection: As a foreign body implanted in the body, the most common and serious complication of a penile prosthesis is infection. To prevent infection, effective medications must be used before, during, and after surgery. The prosthesis can be placed in a solution before surgery, aseptic manipulation must be performed during surgery, and dressings must be changed in a timely manner after surgery. Care should be taken to select a prosthesis of appropriate size. If the prosthesis is too large, pressure necrosis of the glans penis and urethra may occur, which is also one of the reasons for infection. If the prosthesis is too small, the glans penis may bend and affect its function.

(2) Pain: The penis has rich sensory nerves, so there may be some discomfort after the implantation of the penile prosthesis, which is more obvious in the early postoperative period. The pain is generally tolerable, and persistent pain is often concentrated in the distal penis and perineum. Because the proximal end of the prosthesis is located at the end of the penis crus, close to the pudendal nerve, it can cause tension in the perineum and scrotum, which can sometimes be considered as testicular pain. The persistent pain can last for more than 6 weeks. If it is more severe, it may be because the prosthesis is too long and the surgery should be repeated. The surgery can be performed through a small incision in the coronal sulcus to remove the prosthesis, trim 0.5 cm, and then insert it again, which can quickly relieve the pain.

(3) Mechanical failure: This is more common in expandable prostheses. It manifests as twisted connecting tubes, leakage, instrument failure resulting in inability to fill or empty, rupture of the cylinder or the fluid dispenser, localized expansion of the cylinder, etc. These mechanical failures affect the patient's sexual ability and can mostly be solved through debugging and repair. If the surgical instruments are severely damaged, they must be replaced.

(4) Bleeding from the corpus cavernosum and hematoma of the penis and scrotum: During the penile prosthesis implantation, an incision is made on the ventral side of the penis root, and a special dilator is used to dilate the corpus cavernosum toward the crura of the penis. Therefore, bleeding from the corpus cavernosum and hematoma of the penis and scrotum may occur after the operation. The treatment method is to strictly close the incision, apply ice packs to the hematoma area, and elevate the hematoma area to facilitate blood reflux and absorption.

(5) Other postoperative symptoms and treatment: A urinary catheter can be left in place for 24 hours after the operation, and the patient should be kept in the head-down-feet-up position for 24 hours, and then three times a day, each time for about half an hour.

Who should not use male penis implants?

1. Serious medical diseases, such as congestive mental failure, renal insufficiency, cirrhosis, abnormal liver function, etc.

2. There are acute and chronic infections of the perineum, external genitalia and the whole body.

3. Patients with uncontrolled endocrine diseases such as diabetes and hyperthyroidism.

4. The patient is suffering from infectious diseases or epidemics, such as active tuberculosis, active hepatitis, various epidemic outbreaks, etc.

Therefore, in order to reduce the probability of complications of penile prosthesis implantation, going to a regular hospital and choosing a doctor with rich clinical experience is one of the essential conditions.
