Thickening of the scrotal skin

Thickening of the scrotal skin

The scrotum is where men produce sperm. Although the scrotum is wrapped in clothes, the chance of scrotal disease is still relatively high. Therefore, for the sake of their own health, male friends must pay attention to their hygiene habits and nip the disease in the bud. Some men may find that the scrotum skin becomes thicker when they touch the scrotum while taking a bath. Why does this happen?

The scrotum has a special physiological structure - thin skin, many wrinkles, and rich blood vessels and nerves; it is located in a special position - closed, narrow, airtight, hot and humid, and often rubbed by clothes, and some people like to wear tight pants. Therefore, a hot and humid environment is created for the scrotum, which promotes the accumulation of metabolic products and the parasitism and reproduction of bacteria and other microorganisms, leading to the occurrence of scrotal skin diseases.

1. Scrotal eczema is a common scrotal skin disease, which is mainly caused by inflammation due to the stimulation of sweat and dirt. It manifests as skin redness, swelling, papules, blisters, erosion, exudate, and scabs. If it becomes chronic over time, the skin will become rough, significantly wrinkled, pigmented, and itchy. Especially in the original high temperature and humid environment, when you take off your pants and come into contact with the lower temperature, you have to scratch. Many people can't resist the desire to scratch. Therefore, the more you scratch your skin, the more it is repeatedly damaged, and the skin becomes thicker and thicker. The thicker the skin becomes, the more itchy it becomes, and you want to scratch again, forming a vicious cycle.

2. Scrotal tinea is a scrotal skin disease caused by fungal infection, which is often associated with tinea pedis in other parts of the patient's skin. Generally speaking, most patients also suffer from tinea cruris. The scrotal skin is flushed, with papules or blisters, followed by desquamation and thickening. The affected area often presents annular damage and is very itchy.

3. Scrotal dermatitis is often caused by a lack of vitamin B2 due to food homogeneity or malabsorption, and is manifested as erythema and scaling. Long-term illness can cause thickening of the scrotal skin and severe itching. Scrotal dermatitis can be cured by taking riboflavin tablets orally for two weeks.

4. Scrotal scabies is a contagious skin disease. As the saying goes, "Scabies is a dragon that starts from the hands, wraps around the waist three times, and sets up camp in the groin", which vividly illustrates that this disease often affects the scrotal skin in the end. It starts with papules and blisters between the fingers, then on the lower abdomen, and finally on the scrotum, followed by soybean-sized nodules, which are extremely itchy, especially at night.

5. Scrotal itching is often caused by tight underwear, hard fabric, frequent friction, or constant stimulation from chemical detergents and dyes left on the fabric. Or due to poor hygiene habits, local moisture, emotional instability, etc., the scrotal skin may itch in waves, but there is no abnormality in appearance. Sometimes edema, erosion, exudation, and scab may occur due to frequent scratching.

6. Simple scrotal lichen is mostly caused by local irritation, scratching, emotional problems and other factors. It manifests as papules, roughness, and thickening of the lichen, but there is no blistering or water discharge. The itching is quite severe and worsens at night.

7. Scrotal neurodermatitis is often caused by long-term fluctuations in mental state, insomnia and other reasons, which cause severe itching of the scrotal skin. As the patient often scratches, the skin is constantly irritated, and typical damage gradually appears. At the beginning, the damage is flat, round or polygonal papules with a tendency to gather. Over time, the papules gradually merge, the lesions increase in size, the color becomes dark brown, the skin thickens, the skin grooves deepen, and lichen sclerosis may occur.

8. Fixed drug eruption of the scrotum. Some men develop round edematous erythema or purpura with clear borders and burning sensation on the scrotal skin a few hours after taking sulfonamides or luminal sedatives. The erythema will gradually subside after 1 to 10 days of stopping the above drugs. When taking the same drugs again, the erythema will reappear at the original site, and the symptoms will become more severe each time. As long as you stop taking the allergenic drugs, it will disappear.
