Male follicle-stimulating hormone

Male follicle-stimulating hormone

When talking about follicles, most people probably think of women. In fact, men also have follicle-stimulating hormone. The follicle-stimulating hormone in men can also reflect a man's fertility. Therefore, if you want to test whether a man's fertility is normal, you can go to the hospital to test follicle-stimulating hormone. But what does it mean if the follicle-stimulating hormone in a man's body is too high?

High levels of follicle-stimulating hormone are more common in primary amenorrhea, primary sexual dysfunction, early anterior pituitary hyperfunction, testicular spermatogonia, Turner syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, and when taking drugs such as clomiphene and levodopa.

Turner syndrome mentioned here is a genetic disease in which the sex chromosome is only one X chromosome. (Normal males should have two XY sex chromosomes, and normal females should have two XX sex chromosomes.) In addition, Klinefelter syndrome refers to a genetic disease in which the sex chromosome is XXY. This patient has both some male characteristics and some female characteristics.

Reasons for high levels of follicle-stimulating hormone in women include:

1. Among patients with hyperprolactinemia, about 1/4 are caused by pituitary tumors, and some may be caused by hypothalamic and pituitary dysfunction, hypothyroidism, renal insufficiency, malignant tumors in other parts of the body, chest wall damage, and drug effects.

2. Increased follicle-stimulating hormone before ovulation can be seen in primary ovarian failure and after gonadectomy. High follicle-stimulating hormone indicates that your ovaries are diseased, which may be ovarian dysplasia or ovarian dysfunction, or amenorrhea caused by ovarian dysplasia or ovarian dysfunction.

Reasons for high levels of follicle-stimulating hormone in men include:

1. In men, the growth of the vas deferens and the maintenance of sperm production are often regulated by FSH. The FSH level of men with azoospermia and oligospermia is usually elevated. Elevated FSH indicates that there may be some abnormalities in the testicles.

2. It is also seen in primary testicular failure and spermatic tubule dysplasia, hunger, renal failure, hyperthyroidism and cirrhosis.
