What does a man's penis look like?

The penis is a male sexual organ and reproductive organ, and plays an important role in male sexual function, reproductive function, and urinary function. However, the penis is a private organ after all, and many people are still not very clear about what the penis looks like. Some boys even worry that their penis is different from others and are afraid of related diseases. So what does a normal man's penis look like?

The male genitals are the male reproductive system, which is the organ for male reproduction. It consists of two parts: the internal and external genitals. The external genitals include the scrotum and penis; the internal genitals include the reproductive glands (testicles), sperm ducts (epididymis, vas deferens, ejaculatory ducts and urethra) and accessory glands, seminal vesicles, prostate and bulbourethral glands. The male genitals begin to develop during puberty, and have reproductive functions after they mature.

The penis is an important male sexual organ that has the function of sexual intercourse, urination and ejaculation. The penis is mainly composed of two penile corpora cavernosa and one urethral corpora cavernosa, and is covered with basal fascia and skin.

Male penis

1. It is divided into three parts: root, body and head. The rear part is the root of the penis, which is attached to the inferior ramus of the pubic bone, the sciatic ramus and the urogenital diaphragm; the middle part is the body of the penis, which is cylindrical and hangs down in front of the pubic symphysis; the front part is enlarged into the glans penis, with a sagittal cleft at the tip of the head called the external urethral orifice, and there is a ring-shaped groove at the junction of the head and the body called the penis neck or coronal sulcus.

2. The corpus cavernosum of the penis is a cylindrical body with two tapered ends, one on the left and one on the right, located on the back of the penis. The left and right corpus cavernosum are tightly connected, extending forward, with the front end becoming thinner and embedded in the depression on the bottom of the glans penis.

3. The posterior end of the corpus cavernosum is separated and called the crus penis, which is attached to the pubic inferior ventral branch and the sciatic branch on both sides. The corpus cavernosum is located on the ventral side of the corpus cavernosum, and the urethra runs through its entire length. The middle part is cylindrical, with the front end bulging into the glans penis and the rear end bulging into the urethral bulb, which is located in the middle of the two crus penis and fixed on the fascia below the urogenital diaphragm.

4. Each corpus cavernosum is covered with a thick fibrous membrane, called the tunica albuginea. The interior of the corpus cavernosum is composed of many trabeculae and cavities, which are actually sinus spaces connected to blood vessels. When these cavities are filled with blood, the penis becomes thicker and harder and becomes erect; otherwise, it becomes soft.

5. The three corpora cavernosa are covered by the superficial and deep penis fascia and skin. The penis membrane is thin, soft and stretchable. The skin moves forward to the penis neck, forming a double-layered annular fold that wraps around the penis head, called the penis foreskin, which turns back to the skin of the penis head at the penis neck.

6. The space between the foreskin and the glans penis is called the foreskin cavity. On the midline of the ventral side of the glans penis, the skin fold connecting the foreskin and the external opening of the urethra is called the frenulum of the foreskin. If the foreskin is too long, too tight, or infected, it will cause pain during sexual intercourse. In young children, the foreskin is longer and covers the entire glans penis. As they age, the foreskin gradually retracts and the foreskin opening expands accordingly. If the foreskin covers the urethra but can be turned up to expose the external opening of the urethra and the glans penis, it is called foreskin is too long. When the foreskin opening is too small and the foreskin completely covers the glans penis and cannot be turned up, it is called phimosis.

In both cases, inflammation may easily occur due to stimulation from dirt in the foreskin cavity, which may also be a factor in inducing penile cancer. Excess foreskin should be surgically removed to expose the glans penis.
