Masturbation - Most patients need to obtain semen through masturbation. Wash your hands and external genitals with soap in advance, and masturbate to discharge semen into a special sterile cup.

Electromassage - A small number of patients who have difficulty obtaining semen through masturbation can use electromassage to obtain semen. The doctor inserts a special electric massager into the patient's rectum and stimulates the discharge of semen by massaging the prostate.

Sperm extraction by puncture - For patients with vas deferens obstruction and azoospermia, sperm can also be extracted through epididymal or testicular puncture. The sperm obtained in this way can be used for ICSI treatment.

Other ways of collection - Some patients have retrograde ejaculation due to the inability of the bladder neck to close tightly during ejaculation, causing semen to flow back into the bladder, making it difficult to collect semen through masturbation. For such patients, sperm can be collected in the urine immediately after sexual arousal. If sperm is present, high-quality sperm can be separated and then used for artificial assisted reproductive technology.

First of all, sexual intercourse should be prohibited for a period of time: those under 40 years old should not have sexual intercourse for 3-5 days, and those over 40 years old should not have sexual intercourse for about a week. During this period, nocturnal ejaculation should also occur.

Use clean containers provided by the hospital.

It is best to collect semen samples by masturbation. First, make the penis erect, stimulate it repeatedly with your hands, and immediately place the container against the urethra when ejaculation is about to occur, so that all the semen is completely and directly discharged into the container.

Cover the container and send it to the laboratory immediately. It is best to send it within 1 hour. If the weather is cold, the specimen should be kept at a temperature close to body temperature before sending it for testing.
