What does a male ultrasound check?

In everyone's general understanding, B-ultrasound examination is an examination that women will only undergo during pregnancy. For male friends, B-ultrasound examination is not necessary. But experts here tell you that in fact, many men also need to undergo B-ultrasound examination when they are examined in the hospital. So, what do men do for B-ultrasound examination? Experts tell you that men can detect many diseases through B-ultrasound examination.

Which parts can be examined by B-ultrasound

B-ultrasound examinations are similar for patients. They can examine the eyes, thyroid glands, neck, armpits, groin, abdominal lymph nodes, abdominal organs (liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, bilateral kidneys, etc.), pelvic cavity (including male prostate, bilateral ureters, bladder, bilateral seminal vesicles, pelvic lymph nodes), bilateral lower limbs, upper limbs, cervical blood vessels, and can also perform interventional ultrasound, pleural effusion, etc. Most soft tissue organs can be examined with B-ultrasound!

What does a male B-ultrasound usually check?

Prostate stones: scattered small stones, arc-shaped stones, piles of small stones, and single large stones.

Prostatic hyperplasia: Ultrasound images show that the prostate is enlarged, mainly in the anterior and posterior diameters, losing its normal shape and becoming hemispherical or nearly spherical. The gland has a regular shape, symmetrical left and right, and neat edges. The capsule may be thickened, but the connection is intact. The internal echo increases and is basically evenly distributed. Enlargement of the middle lobe may be accompanied by urinary retention and residual urine.

Chronic prostatitis: The size of the gland does not change much, it may be slightly larger or smaller. The sonogram is symmetrical chestnut or half-moon shaped. The capsule echo thickens with the progression of inflammation, and the thickness is uneven, but generally it still maintains its integrity and continuity. The internal echo increases, and the light spots vary in size and are unevenly distributed.

Prostatic cyst: A round or oval fluid area appears in the prostate with increased echoes behind. The cyst may be confined to the prostate or protrude into the bladder cavity. The cyst is generally small, 1-2 cm or less. Large cysts may have sonographic signs of lower urinary tract obstruction.

Prostate cancer: Ultrasound images show that the prostate is deformed, enlarged, asymmetrical, irregular, incomplete, and discontinuous with capsule ruptures, chaotic and uneven internal echoes, and some localized light spots, spots, or clusters. Some cases also have focal hypoechoic areas. In some cases involving the bladder or seminal vesicle, corresponding abnormal ultrasound images may appear.

Prostatic abscess: The prostate is enlarged and the capsule is intact. Symmetrical or asymmetrical, depending on the location of the abscess. The internal echo varies. The liquefied area is a low echo area, and the non-liquefied or partially liquefied area has uneven echoes. If the abscess breaks through to the periphery, the capsule is incomplete and the prostate is no longer enlarged. Through rectal detection, if the abscess has liquefied, the flow echo in the abscess cavity can be seen, which is helpful for diagnosis. Prostatic abscess caused by Aerobacterium or Escherichia coli will have gas in the abscess cavity, and the body position must be changed to avoid the influence of gas on ultrasound.

Detection of alloy stent in prostatic urethra: The sonogram of alloy stent is a strong echo in the shape of a pipe network, located in the anterior prostatic urethra. This section of urethra is propped open by it, and there is no obstruction in the pipe. The rectal method is the best ultrasound detection path, and both longitudinal and transverse images show clear

What should be paid attention to during B-ultrasound examination

Eat easily digestible food the night before and do not eat or drink on the morning of the examination. If you want to do B-ultrasound examination of spleen, liver and kidney: Generally, no special preparation is required, but it is best to do it on an empty stomach. If the patient needs to do gastrointestinal and bile duct X-ray contrast at the same time, the ultrasound examination should be performed before the X-ray contrast, or 3 days after the above contrast.

If it is necessary to distinguish whether the lesion is in the pelvic cavity, the bladder should be kept full before the examination. When examining the abdominal organs, if there is too much abdominal gas or constipation, the doctor may ask the patient to take laxatives the night before the examination, or give an enema before the examination. The patient should cooperate seriously. If the uterus and its appendages, bladder, prostate and other organs in the pelvic cavity are examined, the bladder urine needs to be retained before the examination. You can drink about 1000 ml of boiled water 2 hours before the examination, and do not urinate 2-4 hours before the examination.
