Can men with abnormal chromosomes have children?

Can you have a baby with chromosomal abnormalities? The answer is yes, but there are certain risks. Chromosomal abnormalities can easily lead to serious harms such as miscarriage, malformed fetuses and stillbirth. Now pregnant mothers should carefully read the relevant professional knowledge about chromosomal abnormalities that the editor has sorted out for everyone.

Although chromosomal abnormalities can lead to pregnancy, there are certain risk factors. Genetic errors may occur, resulting in many diseases. According to surveys, 60%-80% of early test tube embryo miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities. The key to chromosomal abnormalities includes the following three types.

1. Balanced sex chromosome substitution. Doctors divide the 23 pairs of human sex chromosomes into 1-22 and XX or XY. In somatic cell biology tests, chromosome translocations of different sizes, shapes, structures and functions are called balanced substitutions. Patients with balanced substitutions generally do not have deformities or mental retardation, but carriers can give birth to normal children or carriers of balanced substitution viruses, with a probability of 1/4 for deformed fetuses or fetal death, and the latter two situations usually lead to miscarriage. It should be noted that at least half of this type of miscarriage is caused by the husband. Because half of the fetus's sex chromosomes come from the mother and the other half from the father. Therefore, if the wife has a miscarriage, the husband must also go for a chromosome check. This type of miscarriage is generally not recommended for prenatal care. When the pregnancy is 16-20 weeks, the pregnant woman will have her amniocentesis checked for chromosomes. If any abnormality is found in the fetus, an induced abortion is necessary. Otherwise, the baby may be born with intellectual disabilities and deformities.

2. Sex chromosome homologue substitution. Simply put, homologue substitution is the substitution of two sex chromosomes of the same number. This kind of substitution makes 100% of the test tube embryos produced after fertilization abnormal. Because babies with one extra chromosome are all severely mentally retarded and deformed, and babies with one less chromosome, except for X chromosomes, are all stillborn. Therefore, the only option for patients with sex chromosome homologue substitution is not to get pregnant to avoid a painful life.
