What is the cause of male urethral pain?

1. Symptoms of urethritis

Men should be examined if they have a small amount of white discharge from the urethra or dirty underwear 1-3 weeks after unclean sexual intercourse, or if the urethra opening is sealed by a scab formed by dried discharge in the morning, or if they have a slight burning or itching sensation in the urethra when urinating.

In addition to the medical history and physical signs, urethral secretions need to be smeared or cultured to identify the pathogenic bacteria. Male patients without urethral secretions should be tested with three cups (i.e., the first cup of urine is turbid with a large number of purulent white blood cells in anterior urethritis, the 23rd cup is clear, and the 13th cup is turbid with a large number of purulent white blood cells in posterior urethritis, and the second cup is clear). Instrumental examination of the urethra is prohibited in the acute phase. Chronic urethritis requires urethrocystoscopy to clarify the cause of the disease. Sometimes a metal urethral bougie can be used to test whether there is stenosis in the urethra. Urethral contrast should be performed when necessary.

2. Symptoms of non-gonococcal urethritis in men

1. The onset is not as acute as gonorrhea, and the symptoms are delayed, sometimes mild and sometimes severe, but milder than gonorrhea. About 50% of patients have symptoms such as urinary pain and urethral itching. It is easy to be missed at the first visit. Male non-gonococcal urethritis is manifested by urethral discomfort, itching, burning or stinging, urethral redness and swelling, urethral secretions are mostly slurry, thin, and there is a "slurry" phenomenon in the morning.

2. The urethral secretion is small, thin, mucous or mucopurulent. If you do not urinate for a long time (such as in the morning), a small amount of thin secretion may overflow from the urethral opening. Sometimes it only manifests as a crust blocking the urethral opening or contaminating the underwear in the morning. During the examination, it is necessary to squeeze the anterior urethra from back to front to have a small amount of secretion overflow from the urethral opening. Sometimes the patient has symptoms but no secretion, or there may be no symptoms but secretion.
