Prostatic hypertrophy is actually very harmful. It can not only cause infection and diseases such as cystitis, but also cause bladder stones and hematuria. In addition, patients often have frequent urination at night, which affects sleep and damages the patient's kidney function. 01. Cause infection. As the saying goes: "Running water does not rot", but patients with prostatic hyperplasia often have varying degrees of urinary retention. The residual urine in the bladder is like a pool of stagnant water. Once bacteria multiply, it will cause uncontrollable infection. Urinary obstruction is a prerequisite for infection, so it is easy to develop bladder neck, posterior urethra and cystitis. 02. Triggering acute urinary retention. Urinary retention can occur at any stage of the disease, mostly due to sudden congestion and edema of the prostate caused by climate change, drinking, and fatigue. 03. Bladder stones. Bladder stones are easily formed due to urinary obstruction and secondary infection. 04. Cause hematuria. When bladder stones worsen and cause cystitis, hematuria may occur. 05. Cause frequent urination at night. Frequent urination at night affects rest and causes excessive mental tension, which can cause symptoms such as increased blood pressure. 06. Cause kidney damage. When the degree of obstruction gradually worsens, it is easy to develop hydronephrosis, renal insufficiency, and renal hypertension. 07. Cause hemorrhoids and rectal prolapse. Due to difficulty in urination, abdominal pressure increases for a long time, which can easily cause complications such as hemorrhoids and rectal prolapse. 08. Cause urinary incontinence. Excessive residual urine can cause the bladder to lose its ability to contract, and the urine retained in the bladder gradually increases. When the bladder is over-inflated, urine will unconsciously overflow from the urethra. This phenomenon of urinary incontinence is called overflow incontinence. Such patients must receive emergency treatment. 09. Induce diseases such as hernia (small intestinal gas) in the elderly. Some patients with prostatic hyperplasia will experience dysuria and need to exert force and hold their breath to urinate. Due to frequent force, the intestines will protrude from the weak part of the abdomen, forming hernia (small intestinal gas), and sometimes patients will also develop varicose veins in the lower limbs. 10. Leading to uremia. This is because the hyperplastic prostate compresses the urethra, and the bladder needs to contract vigorously to overcome the resistance and discharge urine out of the body. Over time, the bladder muscles will become hypertrophic. If the pressure on the bladder cannot be relieved for a long time, the urine remaining in the bladder will gradually increase, the bladder muscles will be ischemic and hypoxic, become tensionless, and the bladder cavity will expand. Finally, the urine in the bladder will flow back into the ureter and renal pelvis, causing hydronephrosis, and uremia in severe cases. |
