Second growth spurt for boys

Early puberty: From the beginning of the appearance of secondary sexual characteristics to the onset of menarche in girls and the onset of frequent ejaculation in boys, the main manifestation is a significant increase in physical growth and development, and the age is approximately 9-13 years old.

Middle and late puberty: dominated by the growth and development of reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics, starting with the onset of menarche in girls and the first frequent ejaculation in boys, and ending with the completion of the growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics. Age ranges from 13 to 16 years old.

Late puberty: From the completion of secondary sexual characteristics to the completion of reproductive function and the cessation of height growth, girls begin to have regular menstruation at this stage, around the age of 16-18.

Slow puberty

Puberty is 2 to 2.5 standard deviations behind the normal age structure of the human race. Generally, it means that women have not developed breasts after the age of 13, and men have no signs of significant enlargement of testicular volume or growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics after the age of 14.

In addition, even if puberty starts normally, if the process is blocked, that is, girls have not had their first menstruation after the age of 16 or 5 years after the onset of puberty, or boys have not completed the growth and development of secondary sexual characteristics 5 years after the onset of puberty, it is also considered to be delayed puberty.

If a boy or girl's growth and development time is one year early or late, it is usually considered normal. If it is two years early or late, you need to consult a doctor and treat it with caution. If necessary, you can intervene. If it is three years early or late, it indicates that there is an abnormality in puberty and usually requires drug intervention. Generally speaking, precocious puberty is more common in girls, and delayed puberty growth and development is more common in boys.
