What causes stomach acid?

The stomach is one of the most important organs in the human body. Without it, the food we eat would not be digested and we would not be able to absorb enough nutrients from it. There is also a liquid that helps the stomach digest food, called gastric acid. Clinically, how is excessive gastric acid caused?

1. Genetic factors

Although gastric acid secretion is not directly attributed to genetic diseases, genetic factors can lead to different physical constitutions, and the levels of gastric acid secretion in different physical constitutions are inconsistent. Therefore, the impact of genetic factors on excessive gastric acid cannot be ignored.

2. Cells are stimulated

The wall cells in the gastric mucosa are often stimulated and in an excited state, which can lead to excessive gastric acid. Here is an example. For example, if the parasympathetic nerves are in an excited state, they can continuously promote the release of a substance called acetylcholine.

3. Increased number of wall cells

The increase in the number of parietal cells is another reason for the increase in gastric acid, because parietal cells are the "culprit" that stimulates gastric acid secretion.

4. Duodenal mucosa

The duodenal mucosa can release certain hormones, and when this function declines, it may also lead to increased gastric acid secretion.

How to deal with stomach acid

1) If you have too much stomach acid, you should eat foods containing alkaline ingredients, such as milk, blood, soy sauce, spinach, rapeseed, cabbage and other fresh vegetables and fruits; and eat less acidic foods, such as beans, peanuts, vinegar, oily foods, etc.

2) It is advisable to eat low-fat and low-sugar foods, as high-fat and sweet foods can increase gastric acid secretion. Avoid taking condiments that stimulate increased gastric acid, such as chili, coffee, mustard, etc.

3) If you have too much stomach acid, you should eat mainly pasta, which can dilute stomach acid and the alkali in it can also neutralize stomach acid. Milk, soy milk, porridge, etc. can dilute stomach acid and protect the gastric mucosa.

4) Eat at regular times. Snacks can stimulate the increase of gastric acid. Do not overeat to avoid stimulating the gastric sinus and causing increased gastric acid secretion.
