Choose the right blood glucose meter

Many patients consider that blood glucose test strips are consumables, and when choosing to buy a blood glucose meter, they often take price as a prerequisite, and often ignore the quality. In fact, the most important thing when buying a blood glucose meter is accuracy. It is best to choose a blood glucose meter from a big brand. These brands will conduct a lot of clinical trials before the product is launched to ensure the accuracy of the product.

Take good care of it and store it

As an electronic product, the maintenance and storage of the blood glucose meter and its test strips are also very important. First, the blood glucose meter should be calibrated once every six months; second, the test strips should be stored properly to avoid oxidation.

First of all, the test strips must be confirmed with two dates, one is the shelf life, and the other is the opening date. In particular, the opening date must be written on the bottle. The measurement is valid three months after opening. Secondly, the test strips should be stored in a light-proof, heat-proof, and moisture-proof environment with a temperature of 4℃~30℃ and a humidity of 10%RH~90%RH (in cabinets and drawers at home). They should not be placed next to heat-generating appliances such as TVs. In addition, after taking out a piece of test strip before measurement, the bottle cap should be immediately closed, and new and old test strips should not be mixed together.

Blood glucose measurement uses the principle of biochemical reaction. Too low or too high temperature will cause deviation in the measurement results. The most appropriate operating environment temperature is room temperature 20-30℃. It is best to place the blood glucose meter and test strips in the operating environment for 30 minutes before use.
