Symptoms of knee fracture can be treated in two ways:

Fractures can occur at any joint in the human body, and the knee is one of the most common fracture sites. So, what are the symptoms of a knee fracture?

Symptoms of a fractured knee:

Patellar fracture is a common injury, with local swelling and pain of the patella, inability to straighten the knee joint, often with subcutaneous ecchymosis and knee skin abrasions as the main manifestations.

Patellar fractures usually occur between the ages of 20 and 50, with more men than women at a ratio of about 2:1. After a patellar fracture, a large amount of blood accumulates in the joint, and subcutaneous congestion and swelling occur in front of the patella. In severe cases, blisters may occur on the skin. The knee joint is painful during activities, and sometimes a bone rubbing sensation can be felt. In case of displaced fractures, the gap between the fracture lines can be touched.

Treatment of a knee fracture:

The treatment of patellar fracture should restore the smoothness of the joint surface to the greatest extent possible, provide firmer internal fixation, mobilize the knee joint early, and prevent the occurrence of traumatic arthritis.

1. Non-surgical treatment

Plaster splint or cast fixation is suitable for non-displaced patellar fractures. No manual reduction is required. The blood in the joint is drained, bandaged, and the affected limb is fixed in an extended position for 3 to 4 weeks with a long-leg plaster splint or cast. Practice quadriceps contraction during the plaster fixation period, and practice knee flexion and extension after removing the plaster splint.

2.Surgery

Patellar fractures with displacement exceeding 2 to 3 mm, uneven joint surface exceeding 2 mm, and combined extensor retinaculum avulsion fractures are best treated with surgery.
