Three levels of severity of varicocele

Varicose veins are a common urogenital disease in men. The disease mainly refers to the varicocele of the spermatic veins, which is dilated and twisted due to obstructed reflux. Generally speaking, young and middle-aged men are more likely to suffer from varicocele, so they should pay attention to it. How to distinguish the severity of varicocele?

Varicose vein varicocele is divided into 3 grades

Grade 1: The varicocele is not obvious when palpated. The varicose vein can only be felt when the patient holds his breath and increases abdominal pressure. This is grade 1.

Grade 2: Varicose veins can be felt by palpation but the appearance is normal.

Grade 3: Varicose veins are like earthworms, and are very obvious by palpation and visual examination.

Treatment of varicocele:

Surgery is the main treatment method and can achieve ideal therapeutic effects. Some patients also take (or combine) drug treatment. First of all, secondary factors such as kidney tumor, hydronephrosis, retroperitoneal tumor, ectopic blood vessels, etc. should be ruled out. Primary VC accompanied by infertility or semen abnormalities are treatment indications regardless of the severity of symptoms. Currently, surgical treatments include high ligation of the internal spermatic vein through the inguinal canal, laparoscopic surgery, high ligation of the internal spermatic vein through the retroperitoneum, and interventional embolization of the spermatic vein. Compared with inguinal canal surgery and laparoscopic surgery, retroperitoneal high varicocelectomy has the advantages of less surgical trauma, less risk of damaging other blood vessels, less risk of missing the varicocelectomy, shorter operation time, lower surgical costs, fewer postoperative complications, and lower recurrence rate. It is the preferred treatment for unilateral varicocelectomy. The degree of improvement in semen parameters and pregnancy rate in patients treated with surgery combined with medication are significantly better than those treated with surgery alone.
