The cause of this disease is still uncertain, but it is generally believed to be related to hormone imbalance. As well as liver and kidney damage or B vitamin deficiency leading to impaired estrogen inactivation in the liver, but the androgen process continues to exist, resulting in an imbalance in the ratio of estrogen to androgen, and a relative increase in the amount of estrogen, which may be an important cause of the disease. In addition, patients with prostate cancer or prostatic hypertrophy may also develop breast hypertrophy when taking estrogen as treatment. Adolescents may experience breast hypertrophy during sexual maturity, but most of them are temporary and often disappear on their own in a short period of time, and are not pathological.

Clinical symptoms

A firm mass with swelling or tenderness appears in the breast. The mass is large enough to be that of an adult woman. If there is congenital testicular dysgenesis, the patient sometimes has feminine signs, such as a high-pitched voice, beardless face, and wide buttocks. Sometimes it is accompanied by genital malformations, such as pseudohermaphroditism, hypospadias, or cryptorchidism.

Diagnosis

The main clinical manifestation is a firm mass with swelling or tenderness in the breast. Larger masses are comparable to those in adult women. Due to typical signs, diagnosis is usually not difficult, but it should be differentiated from male breast cancer. The latter is usually unilateral, often infiltrates the surrounding area (especially the pectoral muscles) and has limited range of motion. It is hard and non-tender when palpated.

Some experts say that when men take female hormones, not only may their breasts develop (male breast hypertrophy), but other more terrible things may also happen. Studies have found that some male fish have greatly changed their male characteristics after taking female hormones, and can even reproduce. If this happens to men, it would be a terrible thing.
