3. Rupture of corpus luteum cyst

Only the inner layer of the cyst wall becomes fibrotic, and luteinized granulocytes and theca cells can be seen. There may or may not be blood in the cyst. In the later stage, the cyst wall becomes fibrotic with varying degrees of transparent changes. Since the cyst continues to secrete progesterone, it often delays the menstrual cycle. If the cyst ruptures, abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding may occur, which is very similar to the rupture of ectopic pregnancy.
