Commonly used tests for male infertility

Giving birth is one of the most important things in every family. Many people will encounter infertility. Especially in today's society with too much pressure, infertility is even more common. So what is male infertility? How can we determine male infertility? Today, we will introduce to you in detail the common tests for male infertility.

1. Check gonadotropin:

Gonadotropin measurement is of great value in determining the functional status of the male hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. By observing the level of follicle-stimulating hormone, we can understand the degree of testicular development or damage. Under normal circumstances, the spermatogenesis of male seminiferous tubules is mainly promoted by the secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone from the pituitary gland. Of course, this can only be achieved when the androgen testosterone is normal, because if there is insufficient testosterone in the blood, even if the follicle-stimulating hormone secreted by the pituitary gland is normal, there will be problems with the semen. As far as simple testicular dysgenesis is concerned, the worse the testicular development, the more obvious the spermatogenesis disorder, and the higher the follicle-stimulating hormone value in the serum. In addition, the detection of luteinizing hormone and prolactin also has very important clinical value.

When the spermatogenic function of the testicles is impaired, the luteinizing hormone response is significantly lower than the follicle-stimulating hormone. When chromosomes are abnormal and testicular atrophy occurs, the luteinizing hormone will also be significantly higher than those with normal chromosomes. For male infertility with high luteinizing hormone, this suggests that the chromosomes should be considered normal. Elevated prolactin can also lead to male infertility, which is commonly seen as testicular atrophy, decreased sperm count, and decreased sperm motility.

2. Special item inspection:

Anti-sperm antibody test. Those who are anti-sperm antibody positive often have other problems at the same time, and some of them are closely related to this positivity. For patients with extremely poor sperm quality, small sperm count, and many abnormal sperm, although the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities has been ruled out, anti-sperm antibody testing must be carried out, because anti-sperm antibody positivity itself can completely lead to this, and anti-sperm antibody positivity may also be accompanied by other problems. For example, about 70% of those who are anti-sperm antibody positive are also infected with Ureaplasma urealyticum, which is also one of the important causes of infertility. Clinical research at Chongqing Union Hospital found that in cases where semen was positive for some pathogenic microorganisms, including Ureaplasma urealyticum, the content of anti-sperm antibodies in semen showed a significant increasing trend.

Both antisperm antibodies and Ureaplasma urealyticum are the "big enemies" of sperm quality. In patients with Ureaplasma urealyticum infection, the positive rate of antisperm antibodies is much higher than that of normal uninfected people, indicating that Ureaplasma urealyticum infection in men is a inducement for the production of antisperm antibodies. If the patient is positive for antisperm antibodies, further examination for Ureaplasma urealyticum should be performed, and if positive, treatment should be given at the same time.

The above are the common examination methods for male infertility that we have prepared for you today. You need to search and find more information by yourself. If you have the conditions, you can also consult a professional doctor one-on-one. It is recommended that you pay more attention to your physical health in your daily life, stay away from tobacco and alcohol, do not overeat, and go to the hospital in time if you encounter any problems.
