How to deal with smegma? How to deal with baby smegma

Many children have foreskin that is too long after birth, which will form smegma. Parents should deal with the smegma for the baby in time. The baby should be washed regularly with warm water, kept dry after urinating, and talcum powder should be applied. Circumcision surgery should be performed at the appropriate time.

1. How to deal with smegma

1. If the baby has smegma, you can wash it with warm water, keep it clean and dry after urinating, and apply ointment on the inflamed area (the medication must be used under the guidance of a doctor).

2. Pay attention to controlling the water temperature. The water temperature for bathing babies should be controlled at 38-40 degrees Celsius. This is not only to protect the baby's skin from being burned by hot water, but also to protect the scrotum from being burned. Adults all know that the scrotum is the coldest part of the male body and is most afraid of heat. High temperatures will damage the sperm in the mature male testicles and affect fertility. There are no sperm in the baby's testicles at this time, but it is also necessary to prevent burns. Baby smegma should be prevented when bathing.

3. Physiological phimosis and circumcision. Newborn male babies will have the phenomenon of foreskin being too long, which can protect the genitals. In the first year of life when skin infections such as diaper rash are prone to occur, it can also protect the delicate glans from direct damage. This is called physiological phimosis, which will gradually change when the child is about 3 years old. If the foreskin still cannot be retracted behind the glans to expose the glans after 3 years old, it is true phimosis, and then the corresponding circumcision surgery needs to be performed under the guidance of a doctor.

4. Don’t worry if babies under 18 years old have smegma. There are many secretory glands in the foreskin, and some oily secretions similar to bean curd residue may accumulate between the foreskin and the glans penis, forming smegma. However, parents don’t need to worry or rush to clean babies under 18 years old, so the baby’s smegma should be treated in due time.

2. The harm of smegma

Basically, all boys are born with foreskin or phimosis. No boy is born with a large glans. Children with phimosis will have some oil secretions accumulated in the gap between the foreskin and the glans. They cannot be discharged in time and form small white lumps called smegma. When the glans is completely exposed, the smegma can be easily cleaned off.

The most common period for smegma in babies is when the glans of the penis is about to be exposed but not yet completely exposed. Almost all boys will have inflammation during this period, whether mild or severe, and this is actually not the foreskin's fault.

If the foreskin covers the penis well when the boy is young, balanitis usually does not occur. But as the boy grows, the foreskin slowly separates from the glans penis, and the glans penis has the opportunity to directly contact the outside world, and bacteria also have the opportunity to enter the gap between the foreskin and the glans penis. At this time, because the child's foreskin has not yet completely separated from the glans penis, it cannot be cleaned and causes inflammation. Baby smegma can cause redness, swelling, pain, and even pus discharge in the foreskin and surrounding areas.
