Clinical manifestations of bloody stool in men

I believe that everyone is familiar with the symptom of bleeding in the stool. Bleeding in the stool is a common symptom. It not only brings us discomfort but also easily brings us great psychological pressure. Therefore, we suggest that everyone should pay attention to the symptom of bleeding in the stool. Some male friends are prone to symptoms of bleeding in the stool. Below we introduce the clinical manifestations of bleeding in the stool.

1. Bloody stool

Most of the bleeding is acute (immediate), and the blood flows out of the blood vessels and is discharged through the anus with feces in a short time, or flows out directly after defecation. The appearance of the blood flowing out is similar to that of traumatic bleeding, and the color is bright red, purple, or dark red. After a while, it can coagulate into blood clots. It is often seen in the following diseases:

(1) Hemorrhoids of all stages, internal and external, and mixed hemorrhoids can cause bleeding in the stool, usually with blood in the stool or blood dripping after defecation. External hemorrhoids generally do not cause bleeding in the stool.

(2) Intestinal polyps are painless stool bleeding. Bleeding occurs during defecation and stops after defecation. The amount of blood varies. Generally, the blood does not mix with the stool. However, if the polyps are located high and the amount is large, they may mix with the stool.

(3) Long-term rectal prolapse may cause bleeding during bowel movements.

(4) Anal fissure with blood in the stool. The bleeding occurs as blood on one side of the stool that is not mixed with the stool. Some patients also experience blood dripping after defecation.

2. Purulent blood/mucous blood in stool

That is, the excrement contains both pus (mucus) and blood. Purulent (mucus) and bloody stools are often seen in tumors and inflammation in the rectum or colon. Common diseases include:

(1) In cases of rectal cancer, the blood is fresher or darker red, and there may be mucus in the stool. Often, blood, mucus, and stool are mixed together.

(2) As the course of colorectal cancer progresses, stool bleeding will gradually occur. The stool is usually darker and contains pus or mucus.

(3) Ulcerative colitis with mucus or blood in the stool, accompanied by left lower abdominal pain or lower abdominal pain.

(4) Intestinal infectious diseases such as bacillary dysentery, amoebiasis, etc.

3. Black stools

Also known as tarry stool, the stool is black or brownish black. It is one of the most common symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. If the amount of bleeding is small and the bleeding speed is slow, the blood stays in the intestine for a long time, and the stool is black; if the amount of bleeding is large and the time it stays in the intestine is short, the blood is dark red; if the amount of bleeding is particularly large and it is discharged quickly, it may also be bright red.

4. Occult blood in stool

Small amounts (trace amounts) of gastrointestinal bleeding will not cause changes in stool color, and will only be positive in the stool occult blood test, which is called occult blood in the stool. All diseases that cause gastrointestinal bleeding can cause occult blood in the stool, and ulcers, inflammation, and tumors are common. The fecal occult blood test can detect small amounts (trace amounts) of blood components in the stool. Early occult blood in the stool of intestinal polyps (cancer) can be positive. Regular fecal occult blood testing is an important way to screen (primary screening) for colorectal tumors.

5. Associated symptoms

(1) Anal and perianal lesions include bright red blood in the stool, unbearable anal pain, or swelling with hemorrhoids, or anal fissures.

(2) Vomiting blood due to upper gastrointestinal diseases is usually accompanied by black stools. Bloody stools may occur when the amount of bleeding is large and the bleeding rate is fast.

(3) Lower gastrointestinal diseases may present with different symptoms depending on the primary cause of bleeding.

In the above article, we introduced a symptom that is common among male friends, that is, bloody stool. We know that the occurrence of bleeding stool can easily bring many kinds of troubles to male friends, so we suggest that male friends should pay attention to this symptom.
