When the superficial branches of the cervical plexus are invaded, the patient may have pain in the ears, pillow, shoulders, etc. There may be metastasis to the cervical lymph nodes and distant organ metastasis (lungs, bones, central nervous system, etc.).

In addition to neck masses, patients with medullary carcinoma may experience diarrhea, palpitations, facial flushing, and low blood calcium levels due to the production of 5-hydroxytryptamine and calcitonin by the cancer. For patients with a family history, the possibility of multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type II (MEN-II) should be noted.
