Introduction to sperm viscosity

Introduction to sperm viscosity

In daily life, the birth of a new life depends on the combination of active sperm and egg. We all know that the higher the sperm viscosity, the more active the sperm is and the easier it is to conceive. However, some friends pay less and less attention to their own bodies, resulting in low sperm viscosity. So how can this be restored? The following article will introduce it to you.

Semen is composed of sperm and seminal plasma. Seminal plasma not only provides nutrients for sperm, but also provides an environment for sperm to move. Without seminal plasma, sperm cannot swim. Since seminal plasma is a liquid, it may have different viscosities due to different contents. If the viscosity is too high, the sperm will be blocked from moving forward, and the sperm will not be able to pass through the cervix and enter the uterus to meet with the egg, resulting in infertility. This is the same as a person who is trapped in a swamp and cannot move. Therefore, some male infertility is caused by excessively high semen viscosity.

Semen with high viscosity should be distinguished from semen that does not liquefy. Semen is jelly-like when it is just discharged, and can be liquefied by the liquefying enzyme in the prostate secretion within 20 minutes. When the prostate is inflamed, this enzyme may decrease or even cause semen to not liquefy. At this time, there will be jelly-like clots in the semen, which are similar to the semen with high viscosity, but the texture is different. Usually, to observe whether the semen is too viscous, you can use a needle to pick up the semen. If the mucus thread is longer than 1 cm and still continues, it can be judged that the viscosity is too high. If the test tube containing semen is rotated quickly, if the semen cannot rotate quickly with the tube wall but rotates slowly, it also indicates that the viscosity is too high. To determine the viscosity more accurately, a specially designed viscometer is used to calculate the time required for 0.5 ml of semen to pass through a capillary of a certain diameter. If the time is prolonged, the viscosity is too high.

There are two common treatments for high semen viscosity.

(1) Use mucolytics: You can use tylosin or tylosin to mix semen with mucolytics for artificial insemination, or inject the solution into the vagina before sexual intercourse so that it comes into contact with semen and becomes thinner.

(2) Mechanical method: Place semen in a high-pressure syringe, inject it into a glass container through a needle, and then pour the semen in the container back into the high-pressure syringe. Repeat this injection five times. The semen will become similar to liquid and will not harm the sperm. This diluted semen can then be used for artificial insemination to achieve fertility.

Sperm viscosity is a key to determine how to successfully conceive. If the sperm viscosity is reduced, it means that conception cannot be achieved. It is recommended that you do not masturbate excessively in your daily life. Excessive masturbation will cause certain damage to sperm.
