The kidney is one of the key organs of the body. Many people often complain of stomachache or backache, and wonder if it is kidney pain. Therefore, we need to understand where the kidney is located. If the kidney function is not good, there are many characteristics. So where is the kidney function? Only by understanding the location of the kidney can we clearly understand the pain in our body. 1Kidney Location The right renal hilum is opposite to the transverse process of the second lumbar vertebra, and the left one is opposite to the transverse process of the first lumbar vertebra. The right kidney is slightly lower than the left kidney by 1-2 cm due to the liver. Normal renal function is within the range of 1-2 cm. The renal function is in the diaphragm. During routine physical examination, except for the lower pole of the right kidney, which can be touched at the outer edge of the ribs, the left kidney is not easy to touch. The kidneys are located on both sides of the spine, close to the posterior abdominal wall, and behind the peritoneum. The upper end of the left kidney is level with the outer edge of the 11th lumbar vertebra, and the lower end is level with the outer edge of the 2nd intervertebral disc. The right kidney is one and a half cones lower than the left kidney. The left 12th rib passes obliquely through the middle of the back of the left kidney, and the right 12th rib passes obliquely through the upper end of the back of the right kidney. 2 Epidermal projection of the kidney gate It is located at the front of the 9th rib on the anterior abdominal wall and at the angle between the lower edge of the 12th rib and the edge of the vertebral spinae muscle on the posterior abdominal wall. This angle is called the renal angle or dorsal angle. When the kidney is diseased, tenderness or percussion pain often occurs here. Epidermal projection of the kidney: draw two vertical lines at 2.5cm and 7.5-8.5cm on both sides of the anterior midline, and draw a straight line through the transverse processes of the 11th lumbar vertebra and the 3rd intervertebral disc. The kidney is located in the two quadrilateral ranges formed by these horizontal and vertical marking lines. If there are abnormal manifestations such as pain in this range, it often reminds that the kidney is diseased. The location of the kidney may be genetically altered. A kidney located in the pelvis or iliac fossa is a basal kidney. If it crosses the centerline and moves to the other side, it is a cross-type ectopic kidney. Abnormal kidney location is rare. When diagnosing abdominal masses, care should be taken to distinguish them from tumors. In clinical medicine, the area between the lateral edges of the vertical spinal muscles and the middle of the 12th rib is often called the renal area (costostriatal angle). When the kidney is diseased, pressing or tapping this area often causes tenderness or throbbing pain. |
