Can boys still grow taller at the age of 23?

Height not only affects a person's appearance, but also directly affects future marriage and employment, especially for men. The reason is that the gender ratio in our country is unbalanced at this stage, with fewer girls. If you don't have a tall body, marriage will be a problem. Therefore, as a boy nowadays, you are very concerned about the problem of height. So, can a boy still grow taller at the age of 23?

It is difficult for a boy to grow taller at the age of 23. The key to human height lies in the length of long bones (such as the femoral head and ankle joint of the lower limbs). The growth and development of long bones includes two aspects: vertical growth and development of bones (i.e. linear growth and development) and perfection of bones:

1. When a person is just born, the key long bones, such as the humerus, femoral head, and both sides of the epiphysis of the ankle joint, are all cartilage except the distal femoral head. Later, at different ages, ossification centers appear in the epiphysis, and the ossification centers gradually expand, and the bone tissue replaces the cartilage tissue. However, there is still a section of cartilage between the technical shaft and the epiphyseal line, which is called epiphyseal cartilage in medicine. The cartilage cells in this section are constantly disintegrating and multiplying vertically during the growth and development period, and are transformed into new cartilage. In addition, the whole process of bone formation is also constantly taking place near the technical shaft.

2. The long bones grow little by little, and people grow taller gradually. However, at the age of 20 to 22, the epiphyseal cartilage gradually disappears, the epiphysis closes, the vertical growth and development of the bones stops, and people can no longer grow taller.

However, because the physical development conditions of girls and boys are somewhat different, girls generally stop growing at the age of 20 and boys at the age of 22. However, many people find that if boys have not reached the age of 25, they still have the possibility of further growth, but the growth rate will be significantly slower and the growth will not be very significant.
