Do boys need the HPV vaccine?

Nowadays, it has been agreed that women should get HPV vaccine, which can effectively prevent cervical cancer. I believe that many beautiful ladies have already gone to get the vaccine. In the past, many handsome boys often asked whether men can get HPV vaccine. So, do boys need to get HPV vaccine? Let's have a simple understanding of this issue. I hope the following points will be helpful to everyone!

Can men get the HPV vaccine?

First of all, I can tell you without a doubt that men can also get the HPV vaccine. Because HPV can also affect men, it can cause genital warts (condyloma acuminatum). The UK Centers for Disease Control estimates that 70% of oropharyngeal cancers may be caused by HPV, of which about 12,600 cases occur in men each year. Therefore, the HPV vaccine also has a protective effect on men, it can prevent penile cancer, anal cancer, throat cancer, condyloma acuminatum, etc.

There are three types of HPV vaccines: bivalent, quadrivalent, and nine-valent vaccines, of which quadrivalent and nine-valent vaccines are suitable for men.

The British Paediatric Association published a handbook in 2012 titled "HPV vaccine recommendations" which provides the following recommendations for HPV vaccination for boys:

1. It is recommended that boys aged 11-13 receive basic vaccinations;

2. Boys aged 13-21 should be vaccinated;

3. 22-26 year old boys get vaccinated, but it is still not strongly recommended;

4. It is strongly recommended that boys who have engaged in homosexual behavior or are infected with HIV get vaccinated even if they are over 26 years old.

What groups can get the HPV vaccine?

The best time to get the HPV vaccine is before a woman has her first actual sexual contact. The UK strongly recommends getting the vaccine between the ages of 9 and 26.

At this stage, the vaccines currently approved for entry into our country are strongly recommended for the 9-25-year-olds for the bivalent vaccine and the 20-45-year-olds for the quadrivalent vaccine. The nine-valent HPV vaccine that is approved for sale is suitable for women aged 16 to 26.

What should you pay attention to when getting the HPV vaccine?

Data studies have shown that if HPV vaccines are given before the age of 12, 80% or even higher chances of effectively preventing cervical cancer can be achieved. The effectiveness of HPV vaccines can last for about eight to ten years. So what are some common problems with HPV vaccines?

HPV vaccine key points The following are some frequently asked questions:

1. Skin allergy. Try to avoid getting the HPV vaccine when you have a fever or cold. If you are prone to skin allergies, you should tell your doctor in advance that you are allergic to these things. If you are allergic to protein, you should not get the HPV vaccine. Vaccinations are generally not likely to produce very serious side effects, but you must closely follow your own physical condition;

2. Time issue. It has been mentioned before that the HPV vaccine is divided into three injections, and the three injections are required to be injected within half a year. The time of the first injection is arranged by yourself, but the time of the second and third injections depends on the time of the first injection. They are separated by two months and four months respectively;

3. Pregnant women cannot get the HPV vaccine. If necessary, they can choose to get the HPV vaccine after the breastfeeding period is over. It is also recommended to wait 3-6 months after the HPV vaccine before getting pregnant.
