How big are normal men's testicles?

Normal male testicles can reach a height of 2.1cm, and the right testicle is about 1cm higher than the left testicle. They are generally oval and harder. The testicles of every male friend are of different sizes. The length and number of the seminiferous tubules are related. We can understand the length, width and height of the testicles, and then use the caliper method to measure whether the testicles are normal.

The testicle is located at the lower end of the spermatic cord, wrapped in the scrotum, with one on each side, and slightly flat oval bodies on both sides. Generally, the right side is about 1 cm higher than the left side, slightly larger than the left side, and has a harder texture. Generally speaking, the ratio of testicle to body weight is 0.076%, and the size of the testicle depends on the length and number of the seminiferous tubules. In order to let more people understand this common sense, the following are selected several commonly used detection methods:

Caliper measurement

This method is not limited by conditions and the results are more accurate, but it takes more time. When measuring, use a caliper to measure the length, width, and thickness of the testicle, and then calculate the volume of the testicle according to the formula.

Testicular volume (cm3) = length (cm) × width (cm) × thickness (cm)

Testicular volume meter

According to the pre-calculated volume, oval hard objects resembling testicles of different volumes are made and numbered from 1 to 25. When measuring, the testicle is pulled up, the scrotal skin is tightened, and the measuring quanta (i.e. testicular model) are compared one by one next to the testicle. The volume of the measuring quanta that is similar to the testicle size can be regarded as the testicular volume. This is the internationally common testicular volume measurement method. The testicular volume of normal adult males in my country (including the scrotal skin) ranges from 15 to 25.

Displacement method

This is an earlier method. When measuring, the testicle to be measured is pulled down, and warm water (about 25℃) is placed in a container with a scale, so that the lowered testicle is completely submerged in the water. The number of milliliters of water that increases after the testicle is submerged is used as the volume of the testicle. This method is rarely used now.

The results of a survey of healthy men aged 23 to 45 with a normal reproductive history in my country showed that the average length, width and thickness of the left testicle were 3.0, 2.5 and 2.1 (cm) respectively. The average length, width and thickness of the right testicle were 4.0, 2.4 and 2.2 (cm) respectively. There was no significant difference in the volume of the left and right testicles between fertile and infertile men. Since the difference in the volume of normal men's testicles is large, and there is also a certain difference in the volume of the two testicles of the same individual, the measured results can only be used as a reference. The judgment of testicular development and fertility should be combined with the results of other examinations for comprehensive analysis.
