What to do if a boy doesn't like to talk

Speaking is a way we use to express our ideas. The first way a baby expresses himself is by crying. As he grows older, he gradually learns to speak and use language to express his inner thoughts. However, some children are unwilling to express their thoughts and wishes for some reason and prefer to be alone. If this situation is not corrected in time, it will have a certain impact on the child's development. There are many reasons for this situation. Let's take a closer look below.

There are reasons why children don’t like to talk:

1. Don’t like to express

Children who don't like to talk are often not interested in expressing themselves, especially those who are introverted, shy or lonely. When parents don't like to talk, children don't get the stimulation of the language environment and don't have someone to imitate, so they become less talkative. If parents are too strict with their children, it will also cause children to be less talkative. Or if parents understand too quickly and take care of things before the children can speak, over time, although the children can express themselves, they don't like to express themselves much.

2. Slow language development

Some children have a significantly lower ability to express themselves than their actual age, with slurred speech, inaccurate pronunciation, and not knowing how to express themselves. This is because the child's language development is slow, or there is an abnormality in the pronunciation organs that causes the child to be reluctant to talk, such as a particularly wide or short tongue, or deformed palate, teeth, or lips. In this case, the child needs to be taken to the hospital for treatment in time.

3. Pathological factors

Some diseases, such as mental retardation, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, childhood autism, central nervous system damage or dysfunction, etc., can lead to delayed speech, and there are also other corresponding abnormal manifestations.

4. Caused by psychological reasons

Because children have unclear pronunciation when they first start speaking, they often pronounce some words incorrectly or unclearly, which causes adults to laugh at them and makes children afraid to speak.

5. Have failed relationships before

Some children are unwilling to interact with their peers because of negative experiences, such as being bullied by their peers. They adopt avoidance methods in order to protect themselves from harm.

6. The influence of family environment

Family members speak to children in different dialects, for example, the father speaks Mandarin, the mother speaks Cantonese, the grandfather speaks Shanghainese, and the nanny speaks Shaanxi dialect. The children are confused and don’t know what to say. After a while, they stop talking.

7. Parental education issues

Parents are too strict with their children, often blame and restrict them; parents are busy with their own affairs or are taciturn, and have too little or no communication with their children, causing the children to live in a very quiet environment from birth and delaying their speaking time; the family environment is not harmonious or many things are taken care of by the parents, so that the children do not get exercise.

What to do if you don’t like to talk:

1. Indeed, in real life, some children can speak but rarely open their mouths. Even when they encounter difficulties, they rarely ask for help. Some children are accustomed to expressing their ideas by shaking their heads or nodding, and rarely answer questions directly.

2. If you let these children who rarely speak hang out with their peers, you will find that they talk and laugh, but they don't talk much when they are around adults.

3. In order to change children's habit of being silent in front of their parents, parents should first change their own habits, communicate with their children as much as possible, and inspire them to speak.

4. For children who are unwilling to answer questions directly, you can ask them repeatedly until they give positive and complete answers, and then give them encouragement, such as "Well said!" "I understand!" etc.

5. For a few children who seldom speak, you can use the principle of conditioned operant reflex. When the child speaks a word, give him a reward.

6. Parents should set a good example

Children are good at imitating, so parents' language expression should be a model for children to imitate. During children's activities, parents should speak clearly, accurately, and in an orderly manner, with concise sentences. At the same time, they should use body language such as eye contact, facial expressions, and gestures appropriately, so that they can be natural and generous, and help children improve their speaking skills imperceptibly.

7. Let your child speak loudly

When she speaks in a low voice, you can say that you can't hear clearly and ask her to speak louder. Even if she speaks in a low voice again, but a little louder than the first time, it means that you heard clearly and solved the problem for her according to what she said. In this way, she will compare: speaking louder has advantages.

8. Encourage children to socialize with others

Because language intelligence is an irrepressible human characteristic. When children want to express themselves, it is possible for them to change from negative vocabulary to positive vocabulary and from silent listening to active speaking. At the same time, parents should consciously help children consolidate their understanding of family members and living environment, constantly expand their games, arouse their attention to playmates, others and the environment around them, and generate their desire and interest to communicate with more people around them.
