Male basic metabolism calculation formula

Male basic metabolism calculation formula

Basal metabolism (BM) refers to the minimum energy required by all organs of the body to maintain life. It is measured by the oxidative phosphorylation rate when the body is awake and extremely quiet, and is not affected by muscle activity, working temperature, food, stress, etc.

Basic information about metabolism

Metabolism is the most basic calorie consumption to maintain the body's vital activities. Metabolic calorie consumption constitutes a key part of the body's calorie consumption and is an important part of scientific research on the body's calorie consumption and its kinetic energy needs [1].

The basic metabolism of the boy

Basal metabolism varies physiologically with gender, age, etc. The average basal metabolism of men is higher than that of women, and higher in childhood than in adults; the older you are, the lower your basal metabolism rate is. Generally speaking, specific values of basal metabolism are considered normal if they are within 10-15% of the normal average. Only when they exceed the standard value by 20% can they be considered pathological. When the thyroid cyst is hypofunctioning, basal metabolism is 20-40% lower than the normal standard; when the thyroid function is relatively hyperactive, basal metabolism is 25-80% higher than the normal standard. In addition, when the adrenal glands and hypothalamus-pituitary glands are not functioning well, basal metabolism will be reduced.

The minimum output power required to keep the body alive

Abbreviated as B.M. The minimum power required to maintain human life. In order to eliminate the additional calorie consumption (called functional consumption) caused by muscle work, mental activity, food digestion and specific immunity to external temperature changes, the subjects should maintain a certain degree of quietness and fasting (for humans, no meals for 12-18 hours), using the energy consumed under critical pressure as metabolism.

The daily metabolic amount of an adult is about 1200-1400 calories (kcal) for Japanese people and 1500-2000 calories for Westerners, but the number of calories is not fixed due to lifestyle and other factors. Metabolism inevitably includes structural mechanical work of the heart, respiratory muscles, digestive tract and vascular smooth muscle, as well as functional consumption caused by metabolic activities such as liver and kidney function. The basic consumption caused by the whole process of daily life of each body cell accounts for about 3/4 of it. The metabolism of the same warm-blooded animal in the same natural environment is proportional to the body area. A person's body surface area S (cm2) can be calculated from weight W (kg) and height H (cm) using various experimental formulas. Dubois' (1915) formula: S = W0.245H0.72571.84 is the most widely used.
