What are the methods of contraception for men?

What are the methods of contraception for men? The main male contraceptive methods are condoms, intercourse interruption methods, non-invasive sex, and vasectomy. There are other contraceptive methods for men, but they are still in different stages of research and development and have not yet been commercialized. These include RISUG/VasalGel (the second phase of human clinical trials has been completed in India, and the third phase is underway) and ultrasound (currently only used in animal experiments). If you keep pets such as male cats and dogs at home, it is more common to use castration for contraception.

Use condoms

Condoms are a male contraceptive tool that is easy to use and worth promoting. The advantage of condoms is that they have no side effects on both parties and are easy to use, but they will affect men's feelings and the contraceptive rate is not 100%. According to statistics, if condoms are used correctly, the failure rate is only 1.5-4.2%. However, in the actual use of condoms, the failure rate is as high as 10-15%. The main reason is that people fail to pay attention to some minor details when using condoms. If used correctly, the contraceptive rate is still very high.

Male oral contraceptives

Male oral contraceptives are oral pills specifically for men. They inhibit sperm production and reduce the number of sperm, resulting in oligospermia or even azoospermia and inability to conceive. Cottonpol is the representative of oral male contraceptives and the only drug that has ever been used clinically. This is because this chemical extracted from ordinary cotton seeds has a strong inhibitory effect on sperm production.

Vascular ligation

Male sterilization is a permanent contraceptive method. The principle of contraception is to cut the vas deferens that transports sperm from the testicles to the penis, so that the sperm cannot enter the semen and is excreted from the body. After a man undergoes sterilization, it will not immediately produce a permanent contraceptive effect, so other reliable contraceptive measures must be used after the operation. Only after two sperm tests have been performed to prove that there is no sperm at all, can contraceptive measures be abandoned.
