Prostate examination is mainly performed by rectal digital ultrasound. During the examination, attention should be paid to the size, shape, hardness, presence of nodules, tenderness, fluctuation, and the condition of the median sulcus. This technique can also be used as a treatment method.

1. Prostate size examination: Transabdominal examination method, measure the transverse diameter, vertical diameter or anteroposterior oblique diameter of the prostate during transverse incision; measure the anteroposterior diameter during longitudinal incision. Transrectal and transurethral examination methods can measure the transverse diameter and anteroposterior diameter of the transverse images. When the probe moves from inside to outside or from outside to inside, the distance the probe moves from the appearance to the disappearance of the prostate image is the superior and inferior diameter (vertical diameter) of the prostate.

Observe the shape and regularity of the prostate, the shape, intensity and distribution of the internal echoes, the presence or absence of echo masses inside, the size, shape and intensity of the echo masses, the presence or absence of acoustic shadows, and the blood flow conditions within the prostate and the mass.

2. Prostate hypertrophy and prostate cancer examination: The size of the prostate is related to age, but generally its diameter does not exceed 5cm. Prostate hypertrophy can be seen as the prostate protruding into the bottom of the bladder. The edges are smooth and the density is uniform. Generally, the two sides are symmetrical, but one side may be obviously enlarged. The coronal plane shows it more clearly.

When prostate cancer grows in the capsule, it is difficult to diagnose with CT. It can only be diagnosed when it breaks through the capsule and infiltrates into the surrounding fat tissue. The manifestations are irregular prostate contours and uneven density. The anterior wall of the rectum and the bladder wall may be infiltrated, and the seminal vesicle angle disappears. CT can also detect lymph node metastasis and pelvic metastasis. CT is helpful for the staging of prostate cancer.
