How to self-check for testicular torsion

If you have testicular torsion, you can usually find it yourself because the symptoms are more obvious. Learn more about testicular torsion and do a self-examination to see if you have this disease.

The clinical manifestations of testicular torsion are mainly pain and swelling. If it occurs in children, it is often more difficult to diagnose. Children usually have unexplained anorexia and restlessness. The disease usually develops quickly. Sometimes, treatment is delayed due to lack of a clear diagnosis, causing unnecessary harm to the patient.

Diagnosis basis

1. Adolescents and children with a history of cryptorchidism or active levator testis contraction.

2. Sudden onset of severe testicular pain, rapid testicular enlargement, and severe nausea and vomiting.

3. The testicles are painful to touch and cannot be relieved by lifting the testicles. The position of the testicles and epididymis is abnormal or unclear to palpation.

4. Color multispectral ultrasound or 99mTC testicular scan shows decreased blood perfusion of the affected testicle.

It needs to be differentiated from the following diseases:

1. Acute epididymitis: Patients often have fever, and urine tests may show cells or pus cells, which are mainly inflammatory manifestations.

2. Scrotal hematoma: This type of patient mainly has a history of obvious trauma.

3. Hydrocele: This is a chronic disease that is generally not painful.

4. Epididymal torsion: This type of disease is generally more common in young people.

If a patient has testicular swelling and no fever, the doctor will suspect that it may be testicular torsion and perform exploratory surgery immediately.
