Why do ears feel hot? Three possible causes

There is a folk saying that if a person's ears feel hot, it means someone is talking about him. However, from a scientific point of view, this folk saying is still a bit too superstitious. So, clinically, what is the reason for hot ears? Is it related to disease?

There are three types of ear fever:

1. After doing vigorous exercise, you often feel your ears getting hot.

This is because when people exercise, their hearts beat faster, supplying more blood to the muscles of the limbs. After physical exercise, the muscles need less blood, but the heartbeat cannot slow down immediately, so more blood flows to the heart. The skin of the head and ears is very thin, and it is filled with abundant blood vessels. When a large amount of blood flows through the ears, the blood vessels expand and become thicker, and the ears turn red. Because blood has a certain temperature, you will feel the ears are hot. When the heart gradually returns to normal, the blood vessels shrink and become thinner, and the blood in the ears decreases, so the ears are no longer hot.

2. Blood flow speeds up due to temperature

In winter, when we return from the cold outdoors to the warm indoors, our ears will become red and hot. This is because the blood vessels in the ears, which contract in the low temperature outdoors, expand due to the increase in temperature indoors, and the blood flow speeds up, causing the ears to heat up.

3. Shy, Nervous, and Excited

When you are shy, have a heated argument with someone, or encounter a difficult question in an exam, you may also feel your ears getting hot. This is because the cerebral cortex is highly excited or tense, which directs the nerves to cause the skin blood vessels to dilate, the heart to beat faster, and the blood flow to increase.
