Skin testing is a way to ensure the safety of our medication. What should we do if an allergic reaction occurs during a skin test?

1: Before taking an allergy test, the patient must tell the medical staff whether he or she has used the drug in the past and whether he or she has had an allergic reaction to the drug, so that the medical staff can decide whether to continue using the drug. If the patient has been allergic to antibiotics such as penicillin in the past, then allergy testing should be prohibited.

2: After 15-20 minutes of allergy test, observe whether there are any changes in the injection site (skin bump). If it becomes red, hard, increases by more than 1 cm, or the skin bump feels hot or itchy, it is a positive allergy test, indicating that the patient is allergic to the drug and cannot use the drug. If the drug must be used (such as tetanus antitoxin, rabies virus serum, etc.), desensitization injection must be performed.

3: After injection, do not massage or rub the skin papule and do not allow it to be stimulated in any way to avoid artificial redness and swelling that may affect the observation of the test results.

4: During the observation time of the test, do not leave the injection room, because some patients may have severe allergic reactions even to a small amount of test solution.

5: During the experiment, if you feel any discomfort such as palpitations, chest tightness, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, etc., you should immediately tell the medical staff so that necessary measures can be taken.

6: Some allergic reactions will be delayed. Some patients will have an allergic reaction within 24-48 hours after the allergy test. This kind of allergic reaction is called a delayed reaction. Therefore, even if the allergy test is negative, it is still necessary to observe carefully and strictly during the medication process. Especially when injecting the drug for the first time, you should observe for half an hour after the injection and leave only if there is no reaction.

Occurs in a small number of people with allergic constitutions. For some highly sensitive people, sometimes even if only a very small amount of medicine is applied or a slight contact with it, a serious allergic reaction will occur. Therefore, before injecting certain drugs, an allergy test must be done to determine whether the patient is allergic to a certain drug. Only those who have a negative allergy test can use this drug.
