What to do if your nose is broken? Surgery for bone fractures

As we all know, the bridge of the nose is a kind of cartilage, which is relatively fragile and easily injured. Once there is any external force hitting the nose, it may cause a broken nose. If the nose is broken, surgery is the best treatment.

1: Combined with nasal septum fracture or dislocation

1: When the nasal bone fracture is combined with the nasal septum fracture or dislocation, insert the two leaves of the nasal bone reduction forceps into the nasal cavity on both sides, place them below the deviated nasal septum, grip the nasal septum, and move the reducer vertically upwards, and the deviated and dislocated part will return to its normal position.

2: Nose fracture reduction

1: (1) For adults, use 1% ephedrine and 1% dicaine pads to shrink and anesthetize the nasal mucosa. Children should be treated under general anesthesia.

2: For unilaterally displaced fractures, the surgeon presses the nasal protrusion on one side with the thumbs of both hands. When a friction sound is felt, it proves that the reduction is successful.

3: For simple depressed fractures, use nasal bone reduction forceps with the front end wrapped with vaseline gauze or rubber tube. Insert it under the fractured part of the nasal cavity, lift the fractured pieces upward and outward, and at the same time press the bridge of the nose with the fingers of the other hand, push the healthy nasal bone, and you can hear the bone friction sound of reduction. Fill the nasal cavity with vaseline gauze or iodoform gauze to facilitate fixation and hemostasis. Remove the gauze after 24 hours, and do not touch or press the nose within 2 weeks.

3. Open Wounds

1: If there is no open wound on the skin, a lateral radiograph of the nasal bone can be taken immediately. After diagnosis, manual reduction can be performed. The method is: under surface anesthesia, use a special nasal bone reduction forceps to lift the collapsed nasal bone, and then pack and fix it in the bilateral nasal cavity. If there is an open wound on the surface skin, the wound should be sutured, and the nasal bone can be surgically reduced within two weeks. As long as the surgical reduction is timely and in place, the surgeon will not leave any sequelae. Of course, if there is a wound on the skin, it will leave a scar.

2: Especially in the case of open wounds, antibiotics should be used for treatment. If the wound is dirty, anti-inflammatory drugs should also be used.

4: How to reduce a broken nose

Afterwards, when reducing a broken nose, you can follow the above method. However, you cannot do it yourself. You must let a professional treat it. This way, there will be no errors in the reduction of the broken nose, which will not cause other problems.
