Don’t take shock convulsions lightly, beware of these complications!

Seizures are a type of disease in medicine, mainly caused by brain nerve dysfunction. Sometimes the patient suddenly experiences tonic and paroxysmal convulsions in the whole body or a certain part of the muscles, and the consciousness becomes blurred. So, what are the specific causes and complications of seizures?

Causes of seizures

The main causes of acute stroke are exogenous pathogenic factors, internal accumulation of phlegm and heat, and sudden shock. Exogenous pathogenic factors cause heat to turn into fire, and extreme heat generates wind; improper diet causes stagnation of food and accumulation of phlegm, which turns into fire and generates wind; sudden shock causes the qi to go awry and cause convulsions. The main pathogenesis is heat blocking the heart, excessive heat generating wind, and excessive phlegm causing convulsions. Heat, phlegm, wind, and shock are the main pathological manifestations of acute stroke. The lesions are located in the heart and liver.

Chronic stranguria is caused by insufficient endowment and long-term illness, with spleen and kidney yang deficiency or liver and kidney yin deficiency as its main causes. Due to sudden vomiting and diarrhea, long-term vomiting and diarrhea, or after febrile disease, the vital energy is damaged, the spleen and kidney are deficient, and the source of transformation is insufficient; or the liver and kidney yin is deficient, and the virtual wind moves inside. The lesions are located in the spleen, kidney, and liver.

Seizures and symptoms

The complications caused by shock convulsions mainly depend on the cause. For example, encephalitis and meningitis may lead to subdural effusion, ependymitis, hydrocephalus, paralysis, mental retardation and epilepsy; neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy may lead to cerebral paralysis, developmental delay and epilepsy; febrile seizures have only a 7% chance of developing into epilepsy; and seizures caused by electrolyte disorders usually have a good prognosis and rarely have complications.
